Hey, we had a couple of tornadoes come through rather close the other night, causing some moderate damage, and so I thought maybe there needed to be a tornado thread on Freeones. This year had the first ever "EF-5" tornado (As the criteria for the old Fujita changed, and so the regular F-ratings were upgraded to EF-ratings). This was also the largest tornado *recorded*, at a whopping 1.7 miles wide!
I'll start with my favorite experience of mine (I've been in and seen quite a few):
I was camping in Missouri a long time ago (1986), and every day, it was (no kidding) like 105 degrees, and then at night, horrible thunderstorms would roll in. Great camping trip, eh? The first night we were there, the distant tornado sirens of the closest town went off, and we were like "Oh... .fuck." But nothing happened, and we ended up ***********.
Next day- heat. Next night, here come the storms. Only this time, tornado sirens go off, rain stops, wind gets pretty calm. We got out of the tent, and had a look around, and at one point, the lightning flashed, and... holy ****. There's the tornado! It didn't come straight at us, and I'm not really even sure how close it ****** by, but four guys, tent, and equipment went for a little ride to the tune of about 25 yards.
There was no third night.
