The Thing 2011 Trailer

Wow, that looks crap.

The original Thing, for all its faults is a pretty good movie. This...like you said looks like a carbon copy with a female lead an an ending we all expect.

(Are they all meant to be speaking Norwegian and were hearing in English for our benefit or is the guy at the start of the original a random exception who screams in his native tongue?)

The Carpenter The Thing was, I think, a sequel to the 1950s version...which I think would mean this is supposed to be a reboot of the 1950s version? FYI, The Thing From Another World did have a female lead, as well.
That said, the 1982 version was one of those few cases where the remake/reboot/what have you was far, far, far, far, far superior to the original.

I've a feeling the 2011 version will not be the same, though.

Nope. The Thing was a remake of The Thing From Another World. It went back to the source material, John W. Campbell's short story Who Goes There, & used the original concept for the alien. This new version is unrelated to the original & is a prequel set on the research base where the dog escapes from at the start of John Carpenter's movie.

I remember the '82 version and asking myself the question, "Why is there no women in the movie?" Without some eye-candy, it limits your audience. Anyhow, I can guess at the end. With a woman, she'll be the only survivor, or the last to die. I expect this movie to be crap.

Not really. It was a movie about men. There was no need for "eye candy". Putting a female in the new version is silly.

I saw the '82 version of it after being awake for a couple of days on biker speed-inhaling "Locker Room" at various times during the show. Got back to the apartment I was watching with a friend, heard the TV on in the bedroom, kept telling him "I know I didn't leave it on when we left." Finally went and ad a look, came back and said "Well I definitely know I didn't leave a naked black guy on the bed." Turned out to be the boyfriend of the apartment owner, who got up bright and early to bring us to an "all-hours" club. Drinking Strohs at 6 am...

It was supposed to be a comment about the fact that the remake couldn't have the same effect because of the peculiar circumstances-but as I was typing a video in the FLV converter finished AND so did the Hailey Page comp I was working on in the Windows Live Movie Maker. Too much multi-tasking.

I foresee this film having none of the pacing that enabled the creation of the kind of mood that made the Carpenter version so fantastic because it's assumed that modern audiences aren't capable of having the kind of attention span required to sit through a film like that any more.

Meh...

Anybody wanna get drunk in 2 minutes? Watch the trailer and do a shot everytime you see an overused, horror cliche.

No Kurt Russell? Psshh.....

It's just a bunch of bland actors doing a crappy remake. None of them stand out to me.
