Ok...for all you REAL football fans...real meaning college football...here is the thread to post predictions, argue over the rankings, Heisman contenders, the BCS and all other things regarding college football for the fall 2006 season and the 2007 bowl games.

I look forward to some great discussions here!

By the way...has anyone noticed who is ranked #1? ;)

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

My team ranked number #2?

Rally sons of Notre Dame
Sing her glory and sound her fame
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in every game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame.

Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky!
What though the odds may be great or small,
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory!

The offense should be just as good as last year, but the D leaves some questions.

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

It's a real free-for-all this year. Could be any of a number of teams who rise to the top. Ohio State is the early favorite but I'm betting that my Longhorns will be there when the dust has settled. We'll know a lot more after OSU and Texas meet in Austin in a few weeks.

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

Go SMU Mustangs!!
(Yes, I know they suck, but I still love 'em).

Can't wait for that Ohio State- Texas matchup and Notre Dame-USC (especially if Notre Dame can make it through its early schedule unscathed). Those two games will go a long way towards determining who will be competing in the national championship game.

You must be proud that mighty Notre Dame has been OWNED by a crap team like Michigan State for the last five years
Penn State and Joe Pa forever

michigan state isnt as bad as you two think. now with the exception of willingham's first year, and last year, notre dame was the epitome of shit.

I live in Lansing and see State all the time, great QB, good Offence, CRAP DEFENCE. John L. is over his head in the Big Ten.

for some reason, i dont think you are close to accurate. of those four teams, only notre dame has a great shot. ohio state will bet beat up in the big10. texas and usc? what do they have leftover from those two great teams last year? usc lost their offense(not the recievers, wow) and texas lost the guy that was the only reason they won last year. but, who knows? this is why i love ncaa football over pro.

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

I know nothing about college football except that I wish they'd let Mike Williams back to USC a few years ago.

I just wanted to say, I visited the stadiums of University of Michigan, and of University of Virginia... these college stadiums are supposed to be some of the biggest in the world www.worldstadiums.com but they were so much smaller than I expected them to be. I like the NFL stadiums better. I think because they have bench seats, they can advertise capacities far higher than stadiums which have seats and are the same size or bigger, because technically you could fit ten people in the same space as four seats if you had a bench there instead.

Good luck to Auburn, I think I like them.

PS The game where seed 1 plays 2 is the championship game, right? So what if seed 3 has a perfect record just like 1 and 2? Or the same record as number 2 at least? Shouldn't they have to play off for the right to play in the final game? OK, I know, it doesn't need to be changed, but don't you think that change would be beneficial? Or even outright playoffs like the NCAA Basketball?

If seed 3 had a perfect record seed 3 would be f---d. Seeds 1 and 2 would play for the championship. Yes they should have a playoff to determine who plays in the final game and who gets the championship. In the last few years the problem has been that there are multiple teams with one loss at the end of the season, most notably 2004 when there were no unbeatens and five one-loss teams. How do you determine who's most deserving? It's a big mess because then the team(s) that are left out of the championship game feel like they should be in the championship game. There was also an instance where Auburn, Utah, and Boise State went undefeated but didn't go to the championship game. Instead, an Oklahoma team with one loss went and got killed by USC.

It would be fantastic if there were a playoff tournament of some sort. It's been talked about a lot but it has never happened. Instead we get the Bowl Championship Series which uses computer generated rankings along with human generated ones to determine championship game participants. It would be much better if it were decided on the field.

but Drew Stanton is a great quarterback, very underrated IMO in his pocket-passing ability and passing on the move.

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

Notre Dame didn't beat a single ranked team all last year...and I can't remember the last time they won a bowl game. I can't believe everyone is ready to just hand them the National Championship.

OSU is returning 2 of their best players from last year - Smith and Ginn. They consistently recruit some of the best players in the country and usually have a Top 5 recruit class. They did lose some key players to the NFL - Carpenter and Hawk. But overall it is tough to knock the pre-season experts:

ESPN - OSU #1
AP - OSU #1
USA Today - OSU # 1
SI - OSU # 1

GO BUCKS!!!!

Re: The Official NCAA College Football Thread!

preseason experts? dont make me laugh. how often does the preseason #1 win the championship? its rare. #20 nebraska will make it back to the bcs.

Well we all know it is a crap shoot with pre-season polls, I agree. But when you look at the Bucks on paper they are a pretty good team and have a shot as well as anyone! Wether they are experts is one version, but these magazines do live and breathe sports, so there is some merit..
