It all had a lot to do with the time she came into the industry. There were no other girls like her, she was the first to really step it up in the way she did, and now there's hundreds, maybe thousands, of girls who are as good as her, but they'll never, ever be as big of a star as she became simply because of the way porn is today.
Just the same as there will never be another classic rock band that measures up to who the classic rock bands are/were. It's a genre in itself mostly due to the time period, the style, there was nothing else like it back then. That's why it's so big.

But I do believe that Danni Ashe came before Jenna Jameson. Was Jill Kelly also around during the same time? Possibly Jill Kelly was starting production work rather than acting in films? So she'd be toward the end of her career.
As for xfire's comment, we have ladies today who are very ambitious and successful at running their own websites, and they have been doing it for years .... Rachel Aziani, Kelly Madison, Catalina Cruz, Vicky Vette, Lisa Sparks, Naughty Allie, Sandee Westgate, Nina Mercedez, Tanya Danielle, and Tylene Buck. Holly Randall, and Suze Randall have greatly influenced the industry in the photographic end of the business. And lastly, I'd throw in Stormy Daniels since she has moved away from mainstream porn acting to more directing and production work.
Would these ladies I've mentioned be as successful as Jenna Jameson? That's hard to say.
As for these newer ladies in the poll... time will tell is all I'll say as well.
