The Known Universe

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world's most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.

Excellent video.

Now if only Carl Sagan were still alive to narrate it.

It's funny you mention him. I was just watching an episode of The Universe, which mentioned his novel/movie Contact and how it changed the way astronomers viewed wormholes. Pretty cool stuff. :glugglug:

That video is awesome. And The Universe is a great series.

Last week I saw Dr. Michio Kaku on Fox News. It was kind of sad to see some idiot anchor rush through the segment. But it's cool to see him and Neil deGrasse Tyson making the rounds. I don't think this younger generation has a Carl Sagan to get them interested in this stuff.

My Penis Is Dancing!
Ultra cool little video. Put a lot into perspective - especially when one sees the extent of humanities radio contact as compared to the Milky Way as a whole.
