Tomorrow, here in my neck of the woods, we are going to vote on the SECOND local option sales tax increase in less than five years! 
Our local sales tax jumped 1% from 5 to 6 for what they said was going to be needed to save our schools. It got voted down THREE TIMES, but they kept bringing it back about every six months, with more and more frightening threats to which schools would have to close, how many **** would be re-routed, yadda yadda.
Well, they finally got that one, we've had it for about 2 or 3 years and guess what- one high school now has a new walking track, another high school has the front flower beds re-landscaped so that they don't flood when it rains, the most losing high school (football) in the metro area has a brand new, multi-million dollar stadium, and best of all; they closed all the schools this tax was supposed to save anyway.
So now, here they come with "Project Destiny", which is another 1% sales tax increase to save us all! Again. Like the funds from the casino were supposed to do (haven't ever seen a dime), then the school tax, and now this garbage.
They keep saying its going to lower property taxes, but the amount my taxes will go down for each year is nowhere close to even a DENT in what I spend in sales tax locally every year.
I wonder how many times they'll arrange special votes for this one til it passes... After all, it already got shot down for the last regular election day, so now they're holding a vote for it in July.
Gotta love the theory though- creating a sales tax to give tax relief. :rofl:
