way over marketed. I have 20 pizza places in a 5 minute drive from my house, its a little insane. but i love pizza, especially thin crust.

what the fuck you lookin at?
Pizza isn't going anywhere. Like you said in the title it's a staple food!

I consider pizza it's own food group. :D

It isn't the fact that people find pizza bad. There is just too much competition to easily have a successful business operating a place where a large portion of their profits come from it.

Must be lunch time cause this just made me hungry!

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
Out of that 15 business, only Blockbuster Video is nearby. I've never seen any of those business around where I live. And there's rougly 5 pizza places in short distance of my house. But none that I like. It's all garbage pizza.

I've known some people that have owned pizza places, and from what I understand, the material costs is really low per pizza. Which why I guess that Little Caesars can sell you a ready made pizza for $5.

Like a lot of other people in this thread, I love pizza. I even make my own home made pizzas from time to time.

Now is just a tough time to be in business period. When people spend less money and are very mindful of where they spend it, only so many businesses in a given category are going to make it in tough times.

You know whats fun, breaking the news to an American that the pizza isn't American. It's happened a lot more than once I tell ya...

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Small Businesses in America can be summed up like this: Just a another step closer to failure....:dunno:

I took this as meaning, the chains have ruined what a good pie really is, and because the little mom & pop pizzeria can't compete with the big chain prices, they'll disappear forever. If this is what you meant, I agree completely. I will pass up the best chain pizzeria deal, for a full price pie from the family owned shop up the street. Being half Sicilian, on my mothers side, and being that she was full blooded, and her parents were from the old country, it's real hard to beat the homemade pies she used to make, sometimes from scratch. A small shop comes a whole lot closer then a chain pie.

Just in case anyone cares, I order mine with, sausage, meatball, pepper rings, and extra cheese.

This holds true for basically all food products, coffee and breakfast (Tim Horton's, DnD, Starbucks etc...) Burgers and fries (McD's, Wendys)

I agree with you, support the Mom and Pop stores. The food is better anyway. The servings are usually larger and it supports local businesses.

Never said it originated in the U.S. Just that it is now a staple food that Americans eat.

actually, with a little research, you'll find that many pizzarias and pizza chains are doing quite well during this recession. it's a cheap alternative for dining out.

Alot of people absolutely love pizza, but yeah it's a bit too over marketed these days. Though people get a little tired of Dominoes or Pizza Hut when they feel like ordering a pizza, and having other pizza businesses is a good thing. For instance, I used to love getting a pizza from a local small pizza business named, "Ninja Pizza". Their slogan was, "Pizza that vanishes quickly without trace!".

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of going there to eat one evening instead of just doing the usual pick up. The two idiots taking my order took forever getting it correct, and they were wearing some pretty convincing animal costumes at that. Why? I have no idea. One looked like a Warthog with a mohawk, and the other I think was supposed to be a Rhino. The guy actually making the pizza's wore a mask, and was literally covered in fucking blades for some reason. Upon leaving this establishment, I saw out of the corner of my eye, what I think, was a large rat wearing a goddamn kimono followed by four turtles disappearing into the nearby alley with a pizza box no less.

I said, "Fuck this", and haven't had any desire to go back since.

Americans stole a lot in World War Two, didn't they? :dunno:

I think it's ok though because the world isn't speaking German...

I think the Italians might have something to say about the bastardization of their famous cusine by American companies like Pizza Hut and Dominoes.
