The Crazies

what the fuck you lookin at?
The Crazies

its a remake. But who's seen it? reviews?

I liked this movie better when it was called 28 Days Later.

I fuckin' LOVED the original... I want to hear from someone who loved the original & has a decent taste in movies what they thought of it... Fuck seeing it in the theater either way, I go to one of those about every 3 years... I'm still curious, however...

I'll stick with the original. If you want to see something similar David Cronenberg's "Shivers" (1975) and "Rabid" (1977) are good suggestions. The latter features Marilyn Chambers in one of her non-pornographic roles.

As I said in the movie thread it isn't bad, but it's nothing special - it being a remake I'm sure you can all guess that was pretty obvious. It's one of those shut off your brain for an hour or two.

I'd advise you to spend your money checking out the original if you can (or at least to download it) because while it's extremely cheap and it hasn't aged that well it's still far better than the remake.

I did not know it was a remake, but I thought it was good - it was fun.
I believe Romero is a producer for this one.

I rented the old one a long time ago. I stopped watching it about half way through. I didn't think it was one of Romero's better films.

Yeah, now Romero nerds are pretending it was his opus. Funny thing is, I figured I'd rent it and see how it measures up to my memories, but NetFlix lists it as "Long Wait."

By the way, it was announced that Romero's Survival of the Dead will hit theatres May 28th after an On Demand release. It's fun to anticipate Romero films, it's just not fun to watch them. At least not since Day of the Dead.

It got 1 and a half stars out of 5 on a local station. They said it was a "funny" horror flick, whatever that means. More or less what I gathered was that it was stupid.

That's a thorough enough indictment for me. I don't like funny touching the horror on my plate.

What about a horror comedy like Zombieland, which was neither scary nor funny?

The trailers for The Crazies don't indicate that it is supposed to be funny, so maybe the "humor" was a last minute touch up device to salvage it. There hasn't been a good horror comedy since Return of the Living Dead and that had a long, full nude scene with Linnea Quigley to add to the awesomeness.

The original Crazies was alright being a fan or Romero films. However if they remake Romero's Knight Riders I am going to be pissed.

He's had four of his films remade - is that some kind of record?

I'm not really anticipating this, to be honest, and I wasn't a great fan of the original, it's only worth seeing for an early appearance from Richard Liberty, the mad professor guy in Day Of The Dead (Christ, saw the remake of that a few months ago, one of the very worst things I have EVER seen, a true insult to the original,)

Maybe Hitchcock has inspired more remakes? Not sure, but NotLD has been remade a whopping three times.

^Yeah, you're right about Hitchcock.

I think with NOTLD, it was only remade once, in 1990 by Tom Savini - there *was* a "colorized" version of it released without Romero's permission (as his film was in the public domain, or something) but it was exactly the same as the black & white NOTLD, only 1000 x more lurid-looking.

The only other film I could think of that has a NOTLD connection is Flesh Eater, which is both directed by and stars the 'main zombie' from the 1968 Night Of The Living Dead, Bill Hinzmann. It's pretty terrible, mind. :1orglaugh
