The Best/Smartest Show on Television - HBO's "The Wire"

I searched for a thread about this amazing show but I couldn't find one. So I'm spreading the word about "The Wire" because it is by far the best show I have ever seen. If you like the "Soprano's" you will LOVE "The Wire".

A lot of people think it's just a bunch of gang bangers killing eachother (though much of it is...and it's crazy stuff), but there is much, MUCH, more to this show.

The first season focuses on the drug trade and the police, and how the "War on Drugs" is basically hopeless.

The second gets into the average American dock workers, and the foreingers who import drugs and materials to create the drugs.

The third season gets more into the politics and how they all connect into the streets and the police departments. (Have not yet watched this entire season because every video store I go to doesn't carry it)

The fourth season shows how the schools develop these drug dealers and how their education system is seriouly flawed.

And the fifth and final season deals with the media (newspaper) and how they play a role with how the city views crime and drugs.

My words can't do this show justice, it must be watched. And not only must it be watched, it must be watched from the very first episode until the very last. I am warning you though. Once you start you might end up spending $200 on all 5 season because you will be HOOKED.

Anyway, hope you guys check this show out and give me some feeback.

This is my favourite show of all time, I have all the box sets, and I cannot wait for season 5 to come to the UK in the summer.

I have already heard the bad news that 'Omar' was killed in S5, I just hope nothing happens to 'Bubbles'. Dont tell me if it does.

The show is funny, exiting and smart, All those who havent seen it should go and buy every season available on DVD and watch them through.

From the UK eh? You know McNulty and Stringer Bell are actually Euros? They did a great job changing those accents for their roles. Especially Stringer, he looks/sounds like hes straight out of an American hood.

Fantastic show! I have to say HBO is by far puts out the best series on tv:

Sopranos
6 Feet Under
In Treatment
Carnivale
Curb your Enthusiasm
John Adams

Havn't seen In Treatment, Carnivale, 6 feet or John Adams. Curb your Enthusiasm is hilarrrrious. If I could meet 2 people I'd meet Larry David and the RZA.

Would you say The Wire is the best of all of them? Because I've never been so involved with a show ever. It's like you personally know each character.

My favorite is 6 Feet Under, fav of all time.

The Wire would be 2nd. I agree on the details of knowing the characters so well.

In Treatment is a great show, you really need to pay attention, since each show links up so close to the previous. The casting is surperb and has some actors I have not seen before, but in the HBO tradition they are great.

Carnivale is a grower, I did not really get into the first run, but watching both season together, it is a very clever story line that covers the meeting of the modern era and our nations past in a very unique setting.

I am new to John Adams and have not seen the whole series, but Giamatti as John and Linney as Abigail, two of my favorite actors is great.

I would love to meet Larry David too! :glugglug:

Pretty sad...I agree.

But I will do everything to keep this thread going. Even though noone's posting, I see the numbers going up to whoevers viewing.

I won't stop until there's about 3-4 pages of this thread.

It must be heard.

Hope the show will be in The Netherlands someday.

HBO? Isn't that the same company who made "Band of Brothers"?

A fucking great scene with Avon Barksdale, Cutty, and Slim Charles. 3 of my favourite characters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YLl2S95dBM

Slim: "He was the man in his time."
Avon: "He a man today...he a man..."

Those 3 are my favorite characters after Bubs!! (he's the man ;) ) lol I love "The Wire" it was one of my favorite shows (after Penn and Teller's: Bullshit!). The first season was by far the best but the other ones were pretty damn good.

Just, great thread. I enjoyed watching every episode of this show, even if the last season was rushed out there.
