there were without food for 10 days and without any light. The first thing they asked rescuers was "what day is it?" Imagine the sensory deprivation.
The rescue is complicated by the fact that some of the passages are flooded and so narrow that can only be gone through one person at a time for long stretches. Even trained Thai Navy divers had serious difficulty with it. Compound that with many of those kids don't know how to swim. They are in a race against time as heavy rains are forecast in a few days and they are weighing the option of teaching these kids how to swim and use scuba gear. This is Apollo 13 level insane.
