Started watching it today, I'm a few episodes in.
Now I get all the hype, really terrific so far.
** No spoilers please! **
I usually avoid what's hyped but in this case, I'm happy to be a member of the flock. If it's horror/thriller, I'll definitely watch. I'm watching Alice in Borderland now. That's pretty twisted as well. btw, I wish freeones had a "hide text for spoilers" function like discord but there is a discord so...
Alice in Borderland got me hooked right off the first episode.

Squid game is good so far, but I'd really like to see a full version of the one that started the genre: Battle Royale. The movie really condensed/butchered the novel/manga and left out so many key elements & plots.

I was in Australia in 2003. My last day I was looking for something to do, so I hit a theater, and happened to catch "Battle Royale." Holy shit!! I walked out of the movie, floored. Was surprised at how the Director blatantly showed one girl using her sexuality to seduce and kill other players. AWESOME!!

Finally finished it last night. Overall, I thought it was really terrific. It did however leave me pondering....
Since Gi-hun didn't get on the plane, is there another season in store? And was the old man really Gi-hun's father?
It's nothing like Saw and Hostel? Even more so because Saw and Hostel really suck.
But yeah, Squid Game was really fun, enjoyed every episode of it and thought it ended strongly.
I think @freeryan compared it to Saw and Hostel in terms of the gore and violence. But agreed, Squid Game was very different.
And I totally agree that it did end very strongly. That said, as I sort-of alluded to in my last post....
Did it also leave things open for a second season?

Here are my 2 unhidden spoiler questions. I'm curious to see everyone's opinions:
1. Was the old man really Gi-hun's father?
2. Since Gi-hun didn't get on the plane at the very end, could another season be in store?

They confirmed a season 2. Can't wait though it'll be based on the Korean police and their habit of being late to help. I just hope that's still based around the squid game. Maybe he'll help the Korean police take down the squid game. I don't think the old man was Gi-hun's father but that would be very interesting. Could explain how anyone with Gi-hun and the old man survived.
The two girls were great. In fact, the three main female characters were all superb, I hope they have a more equal share in the next series.
It's close, but I agree: Ji-yeong and Kang. Tough to watch and each had very troubling, depressing back stories.
Agreed. Also curious which game you all found the most interesting. I really liked the glass bridge though that was the most unfair. Was so dirty how the frontman rigged it after the last 4 figured out the game.
btw, alice in borderland is a similar show that I really enjoyed. more of a post apocalyptic vibe but that same saw feel. kinda mad max meets saw.
