The problem is you were hotlinking (against the rules BTW) and many sites usually some method to block hotlinks as it steals their bandwidth. Keep this in mind; never hotlink from a site unless it is an image-host, and even then, read their FAQ to make sure they actually allow hotlinking. Most image-hosts do allow it, but I've seen a few that don't.
