Questions for discussion:
- Should there be one, single age for being a legal "adult"??
In other words, should we determine and set a consistent number, across the board, for when someone is an "adult"? I'm thinking of these things, but there are others:
- being able to vote
- being able to marry
- being able to consent to sex
- being able to *****
- being able to smoke
- being able to drive
- being able to make/participate in porn
- being eligible for the draft / or able to volunteer for military service
- being able to legally buy porn
- being held accountable - as an adult - for crimes that you commit
Should there be just one single age at which we can have these rights and responsibilities?? Or is it okay if it's inconsistent? Or maybe my question is not quite right - should ******** be able to do some of these things (NO, I'm NOT talking porn - I'm thinking driving, smoking, whatever - btw, there are already a lot of under-18s who are tried as adults for their crimes, so that is pertinent here)??? Are the legal ages for these things now set appropriately??? I've noticed that some states are now talking about letting 18-year-olds *****, for example.
What do ya think, FO readers?
