Shoe-thrower in Iraqi judicial custody

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
The journalist who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush was handed over to the Iraqi judiciary, an Iraqi official said Tuesday, a move that signals the start of criminal proceedings.

There were conflicting reports about the physical condition of Muntadhar al-Zeidi, who gained folk hero status when he hurled both his shoes at Bush during a news conference Sunday in Baghdad.

His employer, Al-Baghdadia television, reported that al-Zeidi had been "seriously injured" - presumably beaten by guards - and called on the government to allow lawyers and the Iraqi Red Crescent to visit him.

It's crazy but did you see the clip OMG it was a good laugh!! I think they are taking it too far it's not like the shoes hit him or anything and Bush was not so bothered by the whole thing as you could tell in his statement made after the incident.

What else was he gonna say? OMG they hate me here? He is just in total spin mode on his way out.

But its not surprising the shoe thrower is under arrest, same would happen here.Although the beating him is out of line.I hear he is a shiite but his lawyer who represented Saddam is a sunni like Saddam was.Just goes to show on some things they can agree on,hate the invasion, hate Bush.

I don't think you should be able to throw your shoes at somebody and not have any punishment whatsoever. If he just went to jail for a few days I wouldn't have any problem with it, but they do seem to be taking it too far. In the overall scheme of things it wasn't that bad.

You guys pretty summed up my opinion on the subject.

Moreover, Bush should consider himself lucky to have just shoes thrown at him in Iraq...

whatever happened to the guy who fired a few pot shots at the whitehouse a few years back?
I bet he's still in jail, or an instution.

I don't know what's sadder...this guy took a beating for throwing his shoe or the fact that Dubya really believed it was a "SEE! ISN'T THAT GREAT! FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION" moment.

Ahem. Mr President. When is it great for a journalist to receive a beating and how does that show democracy? And, if you were looking for your "greeted like a liberator" photo op, do liberators get met with hurling shoes? Isn't that a sign that maybe not everyone sees the world as you want them too?

What I think of when I see this incident is how under the control of Saddam if this man had thrown a shoe at Saddam or another person of influence he would have been executed.
But he doesn't have to worry about that now thanks to the USA and its sacrifices.
He now has freedom of expression without being killed for it.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds.

What I don't understand is why are we sacrificing so much, sacrificing life after life and spending billions of dollars of tax payers money for these people if they feel this way?

The debate of whether the Iraqi people are better off now or when saddam was in power will never end.
Regardless, what I said above is true.

He would already be dead if Saddam was in power, probably his family too,

His family has already been attacked. Furthermore, according to the BBC, he has "a broken arm, broken ribs, and internal bleeding" now. And it's only been three days. Just give it some more time.

Nothing wrong with throwing something at a president of a country?

I'm sure bush hatred has nothing to do with those opinions.

Like I said, he can thank alot of dead and wounded young men and women for giving him that opportunity.

Am I being too serious?

Bush deserves a hell of a lot worse than shoe-throwing. He's clearly guilty of illegal wars of aggression, of torture, kidnapping, illegal detention, and a host of other war crimes. He needs to be dragged to the Hague and be forced to defend his actions.

Judging from the reports of the injuries suffered by the journalist in question, whatever punishment he deserves has already been meted out and more.

Am I a bad person if I say that I'm a little miffed the guy was such a bad shot?

For what it's worth, in some, most, maybe all (I don't really know) Arab countries...that's an insult. A BIG INSULT.
Isn't it in the rest of the world as well? The way people say it, it's as if we here first interpreted that as a sign of welcome since throwing shoes here is sign of goodness. The equivalent of flowers, if you will.
