Selling trips to the moon?

Only some orbits but still very cool. You can see what only a very few saw back in the 60s and 70s if ya got a hundred million which probably no one reading this does but there are a substantial amount thats do able for.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
That would be the ultimate HIGH!! I know there would be plenty of :conehead:(s) that would definately jump @ the chance.. the rich get bored so why not get rich off the rich?? I personally wouldn't do it if I had the money or not.. I can just remember the images of that spaceship (don't remember the name of the spaceship?) with the volunteer astronauts re-entering earths atmosphere and vanishing before the worlds eyes.. no thank you!! I'll pass!! :hatsoff:

“This mission will inspire countries of the world, citizens ... our youth.”

Bullmotherfuckingshit!!!
The only thing this "mission" will inspire is filthy rich mother fuckers who don't know what to do with their money. Seriously, what inspiration will a kid in an impoverished, war torn country, say, for instance, Zimbabwe, get from a trip to the moon made by the CEO of a Fortune 500 company? For fuck's sake, the kid doesn't need to hear about the exploits of rich mother fuckers, he needs to know where he's gonna find his next meal, and whether or not his house will be demolished by the government before the end of the day! Want to "inspire countries of the world, citizens ... our youth?" Give the $100 million dollars that the trip costs to people who actually need it. :2 cents:

Take a Hit, Spunker!
According to some theorists, we never landed there to begin with in 1969, so if that's true, and people are attempting to sell and take trips to the moon, shouldn't they be getting more attention? But it's all the same bullshit. As I've said before, all this stuff with the moon is pointless anyway. When people start selling the cure for cancer or the vaccine for HIV, then these useless, pointless, attention getting stunts may have some value to humanity, but I highly doubt that.

They would need to find a better way of protecting against the radiation of space, or the trip would have to be pretty short. I think they have even speculated the increased number of cataracts on older astronauts among other things might be due to the short time they spent up there. A government sending willing people might be one thing, but a corporation probably has to deal with even more issues.

Not many can afford this ...

Virtually no one on the planet makes an income approaching this or has the cash to pay for it.
Virtually anyone would have to sell, or most likely, transfer their non-liquid assets to afford it.

But you guys know that, right?
Or are the rich just guys sitting on real money?

If most people here actual understood what alleged "rich" is, then maybe they'd know those answers already. ;)

Since the Russians have never circumnavigated the moon with humans aboard, I'd have my doubts they could.
Or, more specifically, I doubt they could and safely return people to the Earth (which is far, far more difficult).

Not really my idea of a "good time."
Several days in space to get less than a hour around the moon slingshot.

Unless, of course, the Russians plan on not just doing free return and actually inserting into lunar orbit.
For the Russians, I'd say that's a mega risk level they have never assumed before.

I can just remember the images of that spaceship (don't remember the name of the spaceship?)
You mean the orbiter "Columbia"?
It would help if you actually knew the details of that failure.

In reality, the STS (Shuttle Transport System) has an extremely small rate of failure.
Virtually all of today's manned launch systems are a death sentence in 1 out of 25 cases.

with the volunteer astronauts re-entering earths atmosphere and vanishing before the worlds eyes.. no thank you!! I'll pass!! :hatsoff:
Unlike NASA, which was forced to make a material change in '97, the Russians still use CFC insulation.
The Russian launch system is also far less ambitious, with far less parts, than STS, and well proven for LEO (Low Earth Orbit).

Still, there have been issues with the TMA vehicle, enough that I wouldn't risk it in even just a slingshot around the moon.
There's a huge ass difference between a LEO launch and lunar slingshot, even if the latter is launched from the ISS.

Your chance of death would greatly increase in a moon slingshot.
It is probably an order of magnitude more if you do lunar orbit insertion.

one of these days Alice, straight to the moon!

(aw. domestic violence is funny)

Re: Huh?

In the Futurama episode "The Series Has Landed", Fry witnesses the future's interpretation of The Honeymooners. "Bang, zoom, straight to the moon!" was thought by the people in the year 3000 as a representation of man's desire to travel to space. Fry correctly notes that the quote was actually a metaphor for domestic violence.

haha. way to go wikipedia, you explain everything without subtlety.

I just want to make sure I understand what your saying here Prof.Your not seriously saying that there is not a good amount of people who earn 100 million and many vastly more in the world are you? Even some people like CEO's on salary make more than that not to mention wealthly investors and shareholders.Plenty of people could afford the 100 million price tag.

And I think the Russian rocket can do this fairly easily.Apollo 13 did it with a big hole in it so barring accidents which do happen I would make the odds real good this is done. And they will have no shortage of people with the money to take them up on the opportunity I'm sure.
