Not many can afford this ...
Virtually
no one on the planet makes an income approaching this or has the cash to pay for it.
Virtually
anyone would have to sell, or most likely, transfer their non-liquid assets to afford it.
But you guys know that, right?
Or are the rich just guys sitting on real money?
If most people here actual understood what alleged "rich" is, then maybe they'd know those answers already.
Since the Russians have
never circumnavigated the moon with humans aboard, I'd have my doubts they could.
Or, more specifically, I doubt they could and safely return people to the Earth (which is far, far more difficult).
Not really my idea of a "good time."
Several days in space to get less than a hour around the moon slingshot.
Unless, of course, the Russians plan on not just doing free return and actually inserting into lunar orbit.
For the Russians, I'd say that's a mega risk level they have never assumed before.
I can just remember the images of that spaceship (don't remember the name of the spaceship?)
You mean the orbiter "Columbia"?
It would help if you actually knew the details of that failure.
In reality, the STS (Shuttle Transport System) has an extremely small rate of failure.
Virtually all of today's manned launch systems are a death sentence in 1 out of 25 cases.
with the volunteer astronauts re-entering earths atmosphere and vanishing before the worlds eyes.. no thank you!! I'll pass!! :hatsoff:
Unlike NASA, which was forced to make a material change in '97, the Russians still use CFC insulation.
The Russian launch system is also far less ambitious, with far less parts, than STS, and well proven for LEO (Low Earth Orbit).
Still, there have been issues with the TMA vehicle, enough that I wouldn't risk it in even just a slingshot around the moon.
There's a huge ass difference between a LEO launch and lunar slingshot, even if the latter is launched from the ISS.
Your chance of death would greatly increase in a moon slingshot.
It is probably an order of magnitude more if you do lunar orbit insertion.
