Hi Everybody.
Today is presidents day in the U.S.
And I read somewhere that more people consider Abraham Lincoln to be the best American President in history than any other.
Which got me thinking.
How could Lincoln be so popular?. Soo Highly respected.
I suppose the general reasoning in todays culture is that "Lincoln freed the slaves".
The truth is Lincoln brought the country into a war that costs the lives of an estamated 700,000 men. And I believe about another 1 million-1.5 million wounded, many with permanent disabilities.
practically every ****** lost a *** or ******* in that war. The U.S population was estimated at 31 million in 1860. So if 2 million were ****** or wounded, thats approx. 1 out of 15 of the total pop.
The suffering it must have caused to soo many was immeasurable.
And in reality, even if the president allowed the south to secede, I believe within 20 years the U.S. would have been united again, hence sparing all those lives and suffering.
Just wondering your thoughts. And who do you think was the greatest U.S. president to serve?
