Popeye’s Is Way Better Than KFC, Dammit!

Well this is a little weird. The wife and I got a 12 piece bucket yesterday, and a couple of sides. My wife and I have never had their chicken, but have had KFC, so we rolled the bones and tried Popeye's. We both liked it better than KFC, especially the sides. It's been awhile since we've had KFC's chicken, which I think is good, but the sides are what make Popeye's better. We got the mashed potatoes, which even without gravy are better than KFC's, but the cajun gravy is so much better than KFC. We also got the red beans and rice, which until yesterday, I had never had from any restaurant, but will be making myself again in the near future. The wife also wanted to try the coleslaw, which I didn't like to much. The biscuits were good, and I want to try their mac and cheese next time. I don't think it'll go into regular rotation, but it will be an occasional thing. I like having a cold piece or two the next day, so a twelve piece is perfect for a nice meal. and a lunch the next day, with a piece or two to snack on cold. Just out of curiosity, if it isn't to personal, how much to you pay out on the West coast for a 12 pc.? I think ours came in at about $53.00 after tax.

KFC chicken pieces can be small and scrawny. Also I don't like biting into a piece of chicken then seeing the bone is black in color. Popeye's Chicken is never like that. I have a house full of Filipinos who like sweet food but I still buy 50/50 Spicy so I can get some spicier flavor. Love the mashed potatoes/gravy along with those buttery biscuits. The Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich is good too. Not too spicy but still worth a purchase.

I just came back from The Philippines. I swear those people like fried chicken more than we do. Even the burger places sell fried chicken and spaghetti. All of them. Also pigs are not safe around Filipinos as they are the most non-Kosher culture I have ever encountered. If you are a pig and you see a Filipino smiling at you shaking a bottle of vinegar... RUN!!!

Do they do pickled pigs feet in gelatin, like they do in the South? I love pickled pigs feet, with a nice sprinkling of vinegar. Sad part is, I don't get it very often, and they wife will have nothing to do with it. She won't even make it for me.

We have another fried chicken chain around here, called "Mr. Chicken". I don't know how many, or how spread out they are, or if they have any West coast locations, but they make good chicken. The sides are about the same as KFC, but their chicken is better than KFC. Sometimes I would rather the pieces be a little smaller, because they seem more tender. Don't forget, the bigger the pieces, the older the bird, and the older they get, the tougher the meat gets.

I will say the KFC does have the advantage for their "gimmicks". Like the KFC festive sandwich with stuffing and cranberry sauce.

And of course, the mother of all gimmick burgers:
