Political Figures From The Other Side That You Most Admire

Who are some figures from the opposite side that you admire? If you "don't have a side" feel free to list some figures from both the left and the right who's opinion you most value

For me it's former WH Press Secretary and current Fox News host Dana Perino and the National Review's Charles C.W Cooke. I don't agree with Perino on probably 99% of the issues but as former press secretary she knows what she's talking about, she's very sharp and up to date on the issues and she's able to make her point without being bombastic or crass. Charles Cooke is IMO one of the best conservative writers going right now. His pieces are always well written and very informative

Honorable Mention: Rand Paul because as he said he's "a different kind of Republican"

Good choice.

I'm trying to think of an equivalent of Charles Krauthammer on the other side.

I'd have to say Kirsten Powers and Pat Cadell for the same reasons you gave for Perino.

And on this board, Jagger69, again, for the same reasons.

Charles Cooke needs to take his limey ass back across the pond.

Wow. I'm truly humbled by your remarks. Thanks, Fox. I try to remain objective about things although I'm sure there are others here who would disagree. Anyway, much appreciated.

Putin is as right wing as they come.

You have no idea what you're on about. He's ostensibly a socialist. He was raised in a socialist society, rose up through the ranks and is trying to re-implement that system. And he's no great friend to the West. So that would put him on the other side, wouldn't you think?

None. Except Margaret Tatcher. I don't like modern politicians this much.

While I would agree that he would be on the "other side" of any American interests, whether conservative or liberal, and although he inherited specific aspects of the Russian economy that are indeed socialist in nature, Putin is by no means a socialist. Recall these remarks made several years ago as a warning to the USA about the inherent dangers of a socialist agenda at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland?

“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”

Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”

I'd say that Putin is a socialist to the same degree that Hitler was....that being, if it serves a purpose in solidifying his grip on power and control over the masses (i.e. state-run media), socialist concepts can be useful. Otherwise, not.

Bernie Sanders. I think the guy genuinely cares and tries to apply common sense as he sees it.

There really isn't too much that I don't like about him. His strong union support makes me uncomfortable. I'm not a supporter of Public Sector Unions myself.

It's hard enough for me to think of a politician from "my side" that I admire. The only one from the so called other side that I can say that I grudgingly admire is Julius Caesar. As a republican (Platonic sense), I blame Caesar for bringing to an end the greatest republic known to mankind. But on the other side of it, he was a true OT baller. Homes was gaucho. And as a military leader, he was the ****. Think about it. A guy who built a bridge across a river, marched his troops across, fucked you up, marched back across the river and destroyed the bridge... just to show you that he could fuck you up whenever he wanted to. That's gaucho. :yesyes: But he was also a power hungry bastard, who did not love the republic as much as he loved power and himself. In that way, he's very much like the power hungry **** ants we have in office now. Except they're not gaucho. They're just spineless, bought & paid for, power hungry pussies.
