Play Guitar

Hi. Anybody here play guitar?
I don't but I want to. I've decided to buy one and give it a try.

If anyone here owns a guitar or guitars's please tell us what you own and play. Maybe show us a picture.
And maybe give some advice to beginners.

I have narrowed my choices down to these, both are Squier Jazzmasters
The Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster in Sunburst color

Or the J. Mascis Jazzmaster

If you're only starting out I wouldn't be spending too much money on a guitar - yet. Get a cheap acoustic and learn some on it then as you progress you can buy better.

I play a bit. Know all the basic chords but when it came to bar chords I didn't have the manual dexterity.

Good picks, I think!

I restarted playing guitar myself, some months ago.I keep it low-price atm, so I bought this guitar and this amp, for a total of 250 euros.

What blows my mind is, I had a Gibson Les Paul Studio in the nineties, and it really did not play that much better, if at all. What makes this Stratocaster model cheaper is, it is a Hardtail (No trem, no string-through-body. Still a great guitar

I don't play enough, or well enough to claim anything but opinion. Having said that, I would go to a guitar store near you, and play with a couple. I like humbuckers, and, prefer Gibson to Fender. I was recently looking at a nice Epiphone SG on a website. But it depends on the sound you like, that's why you should play a few first.

Supa whats that a Bullet Stratocaster? Looks nice.

Thanks guys. I know I should buy cheaper but that J Mascis Jazzmaster is $450 brand new. Every person on yootoob who's played it loves it.

I know I have to get a Squier. I've done 2 weeks of research and they seem pretty well made the past few years. The ones from China seem to be the best quality.

I've got a Ventura acoustic that my grandfather gave me, and a Dean MLX that my nephew gave me, I really should trade them both for an acoustic with better fret action, the Ventura is like trying to make chords on a cheese grater.

I can't say I have any personal experience, but more then one person has told me that they love there Takamine acoustic guitar. They apparently have a really nice tone, and can be had from reasonable to expensive. I have also heard Ovations have an incredible tone, considering they're not completely constructed from wood. They both come in 6 and 12 string....I love the sound of a 12 string.

I own a couple. A black and ivory Epiphone Les Paul Standard and an electric acoustic Ibanez. Blue.

My amp is a BOSS Cube-15 and I have quite a few pedals and effects. Self-taught, never really put a ton of time into it to be a great player but I've had some bands off and on. Concentrating on piano at the moment, and some violin.

I am watching various videos about re-finishing amd customizing guitars these days. That plain white Strat is just a bit too run of the mill.

I am strongly leaning to switching the bridge pickup to Humbucker, and the colour ad finish will take some serious thinking

I bought my first and only guitar when I was 16. It was a Wine Red Gibson SG that I got used from West LA Music for $300. I had a cheap Peavey amp to go with it. I sounded like shit and gave up selling the guitar and amp to a guy I knew for what I paid. I was happy not to lose money but still kick myself for putting so little effort into learning and deciding to quit. I should have taken some lessons as I remember a school friend of mine who sounded OK after 6 months of lessons.

Now I am thinking of trying to learn again. I want to get a nice guitar but not spend a crazy amount of money. Trying to decide between Gibson and Epiphone. I am leaning toward a Gibson SG Standard($1500) as I do remember I liked how they felt. I am also considering an Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus($850). We'll see what happens if anything does at all. I may just give up the idea and continue to be satisfied shredding on my mobile air guitar. That thing stays in tune and never misses a note.

I started out with a cheap classical acoustic guitar, which was good enough, but it could not be played beyond the 7th fret, because from there upwards, the notes went flat. Still, I could play all the songs you begin with, and it was okay.

For my 18th birthday, my father went to a music store in the city, and I got this fantastic guitar, a Yairi, which is a handmade japanese dreadnought, which has a really full, strong sound, and which I will never part ways with. It was the guitar that allowed me to go further into fingerpicking, single-note playing, and so on.

If you're not in a hurry, keep an eye on this- https://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid they really do have crazy good deals come across there.

They do, and they also have sales on occasion that allow you to make a purchase and pay no interest for 4 years. You have to have there card, but if you do it right, you pay nothing extra. That's how I bought my Schecter Stiletto, and my Line 6.

You should also check out Sweet Water.com that was a whole new adventure for me, because they have exclusives that Musicians Friend doesn't...and vice versa.

A final thought, although it doesn't help anyone out of the USA, but Musicians Friend is owned by Guitar Centers. Sweet Water is not, I don't believe.

And Sup, that is a very interesting guitar....ever check into value, and/or rarity, and collect-ability?

I'm trying to fight the urge for some v-drums again. This is something I've wanted since I was 15. Man.

Thanks fellas. I was checking out Sweetwater and just looked at MusiciansFriend. Sweetwater has a 55 point inspection which is appealing to me. If only they could find room in the box to mail me an instructor so I could learn how to play the darn thing.

I'm kinda liking this Ebony Gibson SG Standard. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SGSTEBCH--gibson-sg-standard-ebony

I have checked, and it has gotten more valuable, they build small numbers of these guitars, and they are in high demand.

Yet they would have to be REALLY much more in demand to tempt me to sell. I mean, if you offer me 25 K euros, well, I would think about it :)

I was wondering the same thing. It has an aura about it that seems to have some value, in one form or another, emanating from it.

Friends that play in bands have complimented me on the strong sound, which is different from the easy-going strumming sound from usial guitars, it is almost as good as an electric guitar. Playing blues slide on it sounds awesome, too.
