Personal Experience Back Injury

Hi. I'm going to reveal a little about myself in this thread. Hopefully I won't regret it but as we are all friends I think it will be ok.
In late 1999 I exploded a disc in my back at work.
For several months I lived in horrible pain. The kind of pain that makes you insane.
On March 1st 2000 I got surgery and he fixed me although it took about 2 months to recover completely from the trauma of back surgery.
On a sad note the day I got my surgery my girlfriend of several months died in a car accident. She was only 20. Wasn't even her fault.

Not long after I began working out again and over the years built my body into a very nice specimen over the years.
I never had even one issue with my back since. Until a few days ago.
Over the past few years due to my big responsibilty of raising a child on my own I have let myself get kinda soft.
Not fat and I'm only 5'8", but just a regular nothing special body.
So I got kind of a flu or something last week. Sucked out all my energy.
Then it snowed and I shoveled a little. 2 days later I could barely move, even breathing hurt and coughing, forgetaboutit.

So a lady who I am close with took me to the ER. I figured it was just muscular but an xray and some pain medication and perhaps muscle relaxers would help me cope.
By then I could barely walk and every movement was severe pain. I also could barely sleep more than an hour from the pain.

So I went to the ER. When I saw the doc who had reviewed my back and chest xrays he said there was nothing noticibly wrong which basically indicates it is most likelt a muscle injury and my spinal cord is basically being strangled by inflamed muscle.

I emphasized that I am the sole caregiver to a special needs child and I really need to manage this pain until it goes away.
He gave me 1 days worth of the smallest dose of prescription pain medicine.
When asked why only one day I got the "Well there is an opiate epidemic".
What he really meant was I have private insurance and not state insurance.

Next day I went to my regular doctor and explaned my severe pain and my situation.
I practically begged. She was nice, she gave me 6 pills. And she stated the same thing.
She said to get mre pain medication I need to see a specialist and get a diagnosis like and mri.
So maybe a month or two later I might have got something to decrease my excrutiating pain.

I know people in this drug ridden county I live in . I have a friend who basically owns a drug house or crack house.
All these people have state insurance because they are disabled because they are addicts and they are rolling in the prescription drugs which they sell usually for heroin. Ive seen this same thing many many times in my short sweet life.

So in order to be able to move around enough to be able to feed my son I had to break the law, risk incarceration, and losing my child which would have destroyed his life forever. As if he already doesn't have enough disadvantages.

So I ask, all the opiate pills flooding our country which come from the opium poppy grown mostly Afghanistam, a country the USA has occupied since 2003.....where do they all come from?
How do they get on the street?
Are people robbing Merk and Phizer factories?
No. They are being prescribed by doctors to millions of "patients" who have state insurance and drug/and or mental heath problems. Thats where the come from.

So if a guy like me who is clearly in agnony and damn near in tears asks a doctor for maybe a weeks worth of pain medication they get told to hit the bricks even in my situation.
This is not acceptable and its is nowhere close to being humane in any way.
When I lived in that "3rd world country" of Colombia I could have just gone to a pharmacy and for 5 or 10 bucks my problem would have been solved. And you rarely see an addict in that country.

Anyway this type of situation needs to be addressed and corrected.

Junkies suck. I'm sorry you're having to suffer because drug abuse makes getting simple shit like sudafed a pain in the ass. I hope your back is getting better.

Sorry to hear that Meester. I slipped a disc in my lower back while lifting weights a few years ago. It healed on it's own but I've had recurring issues since. It's agonizing at times. Hang in there.

I hope your pain goes away orat least gets bearable very soon. Regarding the health insurance situation in your country - I rather not repeat my view on that, no point on getting into another argument.

I am an agnostic, so no praying, just really wishing you get better.

I'm sorry to hear your story

One thing to consider is that pain killers will allow you to damage your back more without you realizing, as it's only switching off the pain single, the pain is there to tell you to be careful. So by being on pain killers you will guarantee you problem stays for life.

What a beautiful animal.
I dont understand the caption ,
Thanks everyone.
My overall points i guess were always appreciate your health and my anger over not being able to get sufficient medication for about a week.
Its about 60% better now. Most sudden severe back pain is muscular so when it happens you need medicine right away.
Easing the pain isn't even the top priority, its being able to function until the inflamation goes down and the pain ceases on its own.
A person should not have to make a choice of going days or weeks in agonizing pain or going to deal with scumbags who jerk you around and rip you off. Especially since those same scumbags got the same medicine from a doctor legally.

Hurting sucks.

I ruptured a disc in my neck and damaged the one next to it at work. All my doctor gave me was Tylenol 3, after a few days he sent me to a pain doctor to get pinpoint injections. I know the feeling of being in so much pain that you can't sleep and never being comfortable. I can see why people get hooked on pain pills, luckily the doctor would only give me 20 at a time or I would have taken too many. After 3 weeks of shots not working and giving me terrible anxiety, I couldn't sleep in the dark. LOL I had to have fusion surgery on three vertebrae in my neck and the pain final went a way after 3 weeks. I would have paid anything to get more pain meds at the time but I am glad I had a good doctor that didn't just throw pills at me.

Yes that is also the way my orthoprdic surgeon handled me back in 2000 when an MRI showed my disc exploded all over my spinal cord like a smashed jelly donut. I dont recall ever taking pain drugs for that before surgery, and after never.
If you need surgery you need surgery. Just gotta hope the surgeon can get it right the first time.

But when xrays show no indication of a spine or disc injury then 95% of the time its muscular and it will go away. could be days, could be weeks. But in the meantime it can be pure hell.
And to deny a patient sufficient pain medication during this time is inhumane.
And the excuse that they are addicting or there is a drug epidemic is literal bullshit.
Its because private insurance doesnt want to cover it because in the recent past doctors abused it- motivation money.

Imagine if that was your child going through that pain while a doctor said" I can't ease his pain because there are a lot of scumbag druggies out there." How is that even remotely logical?
And most druggies today are scumbags in every way.
And they dont know it but they are being used as street level dealers for the GOV and BIG PHARMA who control the biggest majority of the worlds opium.

So Whit you've been ok since?

Yes, it's been fine since then. Sometimes if I stay on the computer too long or sleep in a bad position, i'll get a little numbness in my left hand. But it reminds me not to hunch my shoulders and it goes away after a day or two. I still have about 95% range of motion, I think it was my 3-4-5 vertebrae in my neck that they fused together.
