Warning: A California sheriff's department has issued a warning against 'Pedobear'

Members of the notorious 4chan message board use 'Pedobear' to mock any user who expressed a view that could be taken to show a sexual interest in ********.

Since its adoption, Pedobear has developed into an internet meme, and is often posted beside comments as a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that the author could be a **********, as well as being used in image contests. Some users have even dressed up as 'Pedobear' for conventions.

However, officers in the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department seemed to have missed the joke - after they issued a public safety warning after a man was spotted in a bear suit.

According to local TV station KSBY, the Sheriff's Department is warning parents 'about a disturbing new phenomenon made popular by pedophiles and sexual deviants'.

They also claim that 'Recently, pedophiles have adopted the bear as a mascot', and note that 'Although there have been no reported sightings of the image on the Central Coast, individuals dressed in the bear costume and car decals have been seen in Southern California.'

The Sheriff's Department is warning parents to be on the lookout for Pedobear images at public events.
