Parents who 'tried to cure baby's tumour with faith healing' charged with ***** *****

Poor ***

Devout parents who 'tried to cure baby's baseball-size face tumour with faith healing' are charged with ***** *****

A ****** and ****** put their faith in God to heal a tumour on the face of their baby that threatened her eyesight, an Oregon City court heard.

By the time the little girl, Alayna, was six months old the benign tumour had grown to the size of a baseball. Even when it pushed her eyeball out of its socket, her parents, Timothy Wyland 44, and his wife Rebecca, 24, still refused to take her to a doctor.

They are both members of the Followers of Christ Church, an unorthodox Christian sect based in the state of Oregon that shuns medicine.

Accused: Timothy Wyland, left, and Rebecca Wyland, centre, stand in court charged with criminal mistreatment

The tumour, known as a hemangioma, can cause blindness if it develops around the eye. Alayna, now 17 months old, has received treatment for it and been placed in ****** care.

Her parents, meanwhile, face charges of criminal mistreatment, which carries a five-year prison term.

‘Timothy and Rebecca Wyland recognised that medical attention was mandated for this condition, but instead anointed her with oils and laid down hands,’ state prosecutor Christine Landers told the court.

The Wylands’ case is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the Follower of Christ Church.

Disfigurement: Jurors were shown a photo of Alayna's huge tumour

In 1998 an investigation by newspaper The Oregonian claimed that 21 out of 78 ******** belonging to followers of the faith had died from entirely preventable causes – some that would even have been treatable with simple antibiotics.

Ten years later members of the sect began finding themselves behind bars, after the overturning of state laws that had previously protected parents who had religious reasons for shielding their ******** from doctors.

The parents of Ava Worthington were given 60-days sentences after the two-year old died of pneumonia. And when Ava’s teenage uncle Neil Beagley died of blocked urinary tract complications his parents were locked up for 16 months.

Faith: The Wylands belong to the Followers of Christ Church, which believes in the power of prayer over traditional medicine

The Followers of Christ was founded in the 1890s in Kansas but moved its base to Oregon City in the 1940s.

The devout followers firmly believe that the power of prayer and the laying on of hands – where ministers lay their hands on believers while praying – can cure illnesses.

It’s thought that some followers secretly visit traditional doctors, but if found out, they are likely to find themselves ostracised.

Why cant Followers of Christ and other unorthodox religious outfits be ****** once in for all? Shunning modern medicine in the name of god and prayer is so antediluvian.

Religious nutjobs like that should not be allowed to even attempt to breed.

That's the kind of blanket statement that fueled Eugenics and other atrocities.................but I agree in this case.

That is so sad. That poor *** having such people as parents.

These people should not be considered representative of Christians, I think. Most Christians will acknowledge that the best way for God to heal your ***** is to bring your sick ***** to the doctor.

Good! Stupid cunts...

Re: Parents who 'tried to cure baby's tumour with faith healing' charged with ***** a

Everyone deserves a chance to live as healthy and as normally as they possibly can, and that baby is no exception. How do you let your baby get a tumor the size of a baseball and not go to the doctor?

Re: Parents who 'tried to cure baby's tumour with faith healing' charged with ***** a

Normally I would say the state doesn't know when to mind their business....but this case is completely different.

There is comes a point between having faith and being stupid. And this is STOOPID, actually this is an excellent example of people being a bunch of RETARDS. So the ***** has to suffer because they are being RETARDED, these religious nuts really need to have their heads examined.

I, as a Catholic who can't remember the last time I went to church, hereby apologize on behalf of Christianity for the awful decision made by these christian scientist whack job - so called parents.
Please, oh please, feel not the need to condemn all sects of christianity due to the misgivings of a few...:*****:

The charlatanism should be outlawed.
I, as a Catholic who can't remember the last time I went to church, [...]
I'm sorry, but... What is the sense to define himself as a religous man, when you don't pray for your God, even privately?

Re: Parents who 'tried to cure baby's tumour with faith healing' charged with ***** a

i was thinking about this one...at some point it seems like it'd click that god's help wasn't coming and maybe it was time to take care of it yourself...but i suppose that they'd say that dying (or whatever the consequence of inaction was) would be god's will

Re: Parents who 'tried to cure baby's tumour with faith healing' charged with ***** a

Faith teaches you that it is the one and only answer.

I'm saddened but not surprised.

What about the muslim religion with their female genital ********** practices (removal of the clitoris of young girls) :dunno:

What about the muslim faith and their ''mercy *******'' of females? We're importing that kind of culture into our society in the name of ''diversity'' every damned day and nobody reports this as being newsworthy.

Look, I realize that it's politically correct to bash christianity ad nauseam and yet it is very much forbidden to remark negatively against muslims... RIGHT? :yesyes:
OK, let's not blow this story out of proportion, it's an isolated incident and the individuals responsible for depriving their helpless ***** the medical attention she deserved can be heard from a jury of twelve and let it go with that, just don't puss out when somebody outside of the christian faith does or doesn't do something outrageous in the name of their religion... K?

It is their *****, not the state's. So, what is the problem here?

"prohibits the making of any law "respecting an establishment of religion", impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on the freedom of speech,"

They will blow this out of proportion and will "puss out" when someone else does it. That's how liberals work. Completely backwards and hypocritically.
