Palin's 'Pro-America Areas' Remark: Extended Version

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/17/palin_clarifies_her_pro-americ.html

"In order to clarify comments made by GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin last night at a Greensboro, N.C., fundraiser about being in a "pro-America" area of the country, Elizabeth Holmes from the Wall Street Journal sent out a slightly more detailed version of her pool report that came out yesterday, which was then e-mailed around by the campaign.

The upshot? The District is neither "real America" nor "pro-America." Other parts of the nation? It's unclear, but if you live in a small town, you're probably patriotic from Palin's point of view."

So I guess by her definition where I live (a suburb of NYC in NJ) is not the "real america".I wish somebody would have told those Al Queda guys that prior to 9/11 so they maybe would have left us alone and gone after the "real america" instead.

It really starts to sound like the McCarthy era when she opens her mouth about that. I saw her on TV during the speech. But hey, Bush did that too. If you're not for us you're against us. If you're not for us, you're against freedom, democracy, etc. (Of course God has told him to be in Iraq, but didn't tell him there were no WMD's there apparently). There is no other way to see any of it apparently. It's do you still beat your wife? Hopefully she will just alienate so many people, she will just shut up this last week.

The woman can't talk in anything other than one run on sentence, and throwing in, freedom, etc. etc. What this country needs to do is get out of this illicit war asap and start paying it's credit card bills. Screw this Joe the Plumber crap / socialism nonsense. I want to keep my middle class tax money to buy food and responsibly pay my mortgage that I can afford, not give bonuses to Wall st. or Exxon mobil in the form of tax breaks.

A handful of Congressional Democrats attended a special screening of Fahrenheit 9/11 -- which accuses the President of the United States of being an active participant in a terrorist ****** on U.S. Citizens -- and gave a thumbs up. So accusing the other side of the isle of being evil or un-American is not uniquely Republican.

I'm gonna vote Obama, BTW.

I expect her to accuse democrates of being un-american but to say parts of america regardless of party affilaition are more "pro-america" or the "real america" is a little different then just political affilaition attacks. She is saying places like where I live near NYC are not the real america and that the real americans all live in small towns.Lot of pretty conservative republicans types I know who live here and knew people who died on 9/11 in the trade center would not take kindly to that.NY and NJ always go for the dem, but it might hurt in states like PA and Ohio which are a mix of cities and small towns.

Why this woman was picked in the first place is still amazing to me. How did McFossil pick her anyway? Was he at one of his seven houses, ******** *****, throwing a dart at a map of the US while blindfolded, and he hit Alaska?

I realize some people do not do well speaking in public, or with having to think on the fly. I am one of those people. I don't handle well speaking in front of even 15 of my classmates. But holy crap, when you are in the position of being granted the second highest position in American government, you had better DAMN well be able to be put on the spot, or at least not say something headline worthy EVERY time you open your mouth. We've been dealing with that for the last eight years....no way can I vote for the possibility, no matter how slight, of having to deal with someone who is even WORSE for four more.

This all boils down to personal responsibility, something that was lost in this country years back. What I mean by that is this. I am a student. If one day, Obama had walked into my class, pointed at me, and said that he wanted me to be his running mate, NO WAY IN HELL would I have accepted it. You have to decide what truly IS best for your country. That's what these two have been spouting off for months now, Country First. Really? I think Palin knew well enough deep down that there was NO WAY she is qualified for the job. I wonder if it even crossed her mind to politely say no thank you, I am honored, but am not right for the job. Personal responsibility, rather than the furthering one's own career or sense of accomplishment.

I am still stuck on her idiotic, misguided, inept, ridiculous answer to the possibility of fighting Russia. She thinks we can take on the bear? She would even CONSIDER it?

Seriously?

It's people like her that we as Americans should be frightened of. I mean that. How they come into a position of power and leadership in the first place is amazing to me......the prospect of them being granted MORE power on the global level is down right frightening.

Country first. Please. Which country? The parts that are pro-American? The parts that are not? If these two make it to the White House, are we all going to be subjected to their doctrine, four more years of the black or white mindset that you are with us or against us? Why is there no gray area?

I live my LIFE in the gray area, and most people in my circle do as well.

I love America. I love my home. I may travel and leave for periods of time, and fall in love with other parts of the world, but this is my home. I can't just sit idly by and listen to a long winded fool continue to feed the "elite" with comments that sound like they come from a loud mouthed bully in the sixth grade.

I love my home, and no matter WHERE I am here, from the plains of the midwest, to the Rockies and the Pacific, or out in the hustle and bustle of the Eastern seaboard, I love and am at HOME. I have heard enough of the stupidity that flows from someone's mouth in the White House already. I am tired of cringing when I hear these things, and wonder what the rest of the world is thinking.

We need someone to stand up and represent the rest of US, we who actually live and WORK here and help the wheels of this country turn, WE who think before we speak, WE who ARE America.

ENOUGH with the detached phonies who take huge pay raises and promotions, and treat all of us and the world stage like it is a game.

If you cannot cook, get the hell out of the kitchen.

"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe" -- here the audience interrupted Palin with applause and cheers -- "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

She continued: "This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans. Those who are running our factories and teaching our **** and growing our food and are fighting our wars for us. Those who are protecting us in uniform. Those who are protecting the virtues of freedom."

Is this what this is all about? This!.
How many thousands of politicians have said similar in the past 230+ years?
C'mon friday, I'm not a big Palin fan but can find better than this to critisize her for.
I bet Obama has said similar.
Stuff like "Its in these small towns where bitter Americans cling to religion and guns"
I've heard speeches like this a tousand times from many of politicians.
It ain't nothing.

Did anybody hear that the U.S. military ****** a top Taliban terrorist and a bunch of his terrorist subordinates yesterday?
You know, the guys who attacked and ****** thousands of Americans.
Who gives a **** though, right.

I expected somebody to bring up the "bitter" comment. While that may have been a mistake he still wasn't saying they were not "real" americans.Mr P your from NJ are you and the rest of us here real americans? You say you hear things like this a lot from politicians.I don't think you hear it that often and when you have it has been exclusively right wing republicans who have made such comments trying to play to the vote in the more rural parts of the country. Some of that is a racist appeal since those areas are much more lily white (at least the areas/people republicans are trying to appeal to) then more urban/suburban places like NJ.Sarah thinks real americans look like her and live in places like she came from.

Yeah I agree it is somewhat insulting to those who live in urban areas.
I'm just saying its just another BS tactic used by many politicians, designed for the small towner to say "wow, I really relate to her...so much".
I
remember Bill Clinton used this alot, with blacks, whites and hispanics too.

So I agree, just don't think its nothing to be concerned about.
