Ok how do I record this off tv? HELP appreciated

Perhaps this is a really dumb question...but I have always had tvs in which the vcr was built right into the tv...and when i would need to record something I could just hit record on that and presto it was done. Well now I have a tv..with no vcr built in. I have a seperate vcr. I wish to record something tonight off of cable. Well if I wanted to use my vcr I would have to take the cable cord out of my tv and put in my vcr cord. Well if I did that then my cable wouldnt be connected to my tv... How the hell do I accomplish this??
