As a proud dweller of the Great White North, let me say this about Socialized medicine and citizen support programs.

They fucking work. Yes, our global tax rate might be higher, but what no-one ever sees is the amount we get BACK at the end of every year, the amount of support we get for payments for medicine, treatment, access to services.

Simple math tells me I make way more in the savings government allow me to make in accessing - say - medicine, than I pay in taxes.

Give me that, rather than watching people suffer and die because they can't access basic healthcare.

The healthcare system probably contributes to that. If we had a neighbor that we were certain would invest in the majority of the defense for our continent, we could probably invest in a single payer system too.

Those averages are very misleading: health is run by the Provincial governments NOT the federal government. And like all governments, some are bad and some are incredibly good.

To use a blanket countrywide average is NOT what it looks like on the ground as a consumer of those health services. I actually happen to live in one of the worst Provinces and yet I have never - ever- been denied access to treatment or care or medication and never had to wait more than a week to be seen for a non-emergency, and a few hours for an emergency.
