No more job as of today.

The owner of the shipyard I worked for called a meeting this afternoon and told us he'll be filing for bankruptcy tomorrow. Things have been extremely slow in the boat building market so we all could see it coming but to actually hear the words is something else. This really sucks because it was such a fun place to work @.

Sympathies. And what bad timing; just as the USA is officially (called) out of recession (today).

Obama is talking about that now, well he spent 2 minutes on the ecomony and then went into a health care speach for the rest of the speach.

Same shit, different day :( Hope something turns up for you

Took my father 6 months to find another job. Hopefully you will find one a little quicker!

Sorry to hear that, but welcome to the club. My company closed up shop a few months ago and there just isn't anything out there. I've began to look for part time work, hoping something will eventually lead to full time.

Well at least your free for some time. Sometimes life throws you crow bars. Your best bet is to pick it up and go out and have some fun if you can while searching for a new job.

Luckily there is and if a company goes out of business because of bankruptcy the process of applying for unemployment benefits and getting it is alot faster. The first three months I'll recieve 75% of my salary and after those 3 months it's 70% of my salary. But my biggest luck is the money I inherited from my grandparents. My brothers and I each inherited 150.000 euro's so I will at least be able to supplement the unemployment checks to what my salary used to be. I also have saved some money myself and my girlfriend has a well paying job so luckily I'll (we'll) be ok. I do plan on getting another job as soon as possible because I'll go crazy sitting @ home.

Suddenly it becomes clear that the sympathy of a lonely, unemployed, friendless, familyless, penniless, hopeless loser like myself living in a grimey one roomed bedsit isn't warranted or needed.

I'm only able to be online because I've gotten hold of a neighbour's wireless network password.

But hey, I sure hope things get better for you soon.

How long do benefits last where you live? I mean, what's the maximum time you can collect at the 70% level?

Sorry to hear that Boothbabe, times are tough I am from the UK and we are still the only major economy in recession. Glad to see you at least have a cushion to fall back on financially. The job market is very bleak here and I know in Holland also. I was in a similar position to you not so long ago, but a little while back started my own company, if you want a job I might be prepared to offer you something if you know anything about selling software?
