New sigs rules!

All those huge sigs make the board unreadable and very slow for people with a slow connection (not everybody knows that you can disable them in your profile). The the sig file size will be restricted to: 575 x 100 pixels maximum

The new rule will be implemented next week. Untill then you have time to change your sig. If you don't you take the risk that a mod will delete it from your profile.

Thanks for your understanding

Added a "e" to the word time... FB

575X100....the 575 is fine, but the 100 height restriction is pretty severe, Freeones.... Please make it 150.... PLEASE....

I'm adding my :2 cents:

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Ladies and Gentlemen, say goodby to my Sunny Cruz sig. :(
She looks pretty stupid stretched out to comply with the new rules.:(

I just edited mine and, thank God, it did not get all mangled under the new rules.

I think we will all benefit from the limitations (God knows I hate those HUGE sigs some people were using), but 100 pixels is kinda slim.... LOL

I guess, just like ANYTHING, we just need to get used to it... It's "all good." :) :nanner:

lol think u outta luck pornholio the rules are written already

personally i think 575 is too wide and ill change mine later

like sum1 said - time for innovation!

Pornholio, yours is more like a pic than a sig... I've been whining about that (big sigs) for awhile now. Lord Raven was the biggest offender (at first), but he changed his after he was asked. lol

All of these huge sigs have fucked it up for the rest of us who have had them within reason. This sucks, but I am kinda glad...the pages will load more quickly for me (and others) now! lol :nanner:

This maybe the wrong forum to ask this but how do I turn my sig and upload a sig pic????
I want to try and make my own sig

I have to put in my :2 cents:

I don't know what the big deal is but I managed to trim mine a bit and it looks ok

As The Wolf says in "Pulp Fiction," "Let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet..." LOL But a sig revision will really speed things up, I think. People were uploading 200k sig files, and when they would have 8 posts per page, it was REALLY slowing down people like me, people with dialup connections!!!

It's not just the image size that slows it all down. It is the fact that these "signature" images are being hosted on seperate web servers. Your browser has to make a seperate TCP/IP connection for each and every one of those images.

This is the same reason that banner adds generally slow down websites that use them. Banner adds are hosted by seperate machines that are bogged down and are bottlenecks because they are overloaded.

This is also the reason that I am so outspoken against "signature" images. They generally reduce the perfomance of the web by causing frivolous connections. Avatars I don't worry so much about since those are uploaded to the webboard's server and produce no new connections.

At least if you host images, do so on a fast web server and not on a dailup or even DSL connection.

Right! That's why I switched mine this week, amstrad! I found a FAST FAST hosting server for my sig (and I plugged it here as well). It's instant. Good stuff...
