New phone.

I know it's been a while, but it's still nice to "see" you guys!

I have to buy a new mobile telephone.

I need something that is really rugged.

It has to be able to take a serious amount of dust, water and just plain punishment.

I am looking at the Sonim XP series, but any input from you guys wuold be greatly appreciated.

It depends on your carrier, but here is a android phone that was attached to under side of a off-road race truck and it worked fine.

That one looks pretty good! But I'm not entirely sure what "Android" is. Some kind of operative system?

OK, I figured out that android is an operative system, so no problems there. That Casio looks really good, but apparently it's a "Verizon" phone. Now, what does that mean? Is it for the US market only? Will I be able to buy it here in Vikingland?

I don't know what carriers (cellular companies) you have out there. But that phone is probably limited to the US market. Some electronic devices here have restrictions about exportation. My friend has a sony-eriksson rugged phone, that is a older flip style, but I don't know if that one would be available out there either. Bet bet would be to go to a store and drill them for questions.

I'd recommend something from the Casio G'zOne lineup. This is the most recent one. They claim it meets military standards for shock absorption, temperatures (cold/hot), water, salt-fog, etc

I'm now leaning heavily towards the latest Casio Commando, provided that it will even be available here in Europe. But why the hell would it not be?
The Sony-Ericsson most definitely is available here, because you know, Ericsson is a Swedish company. The bloody thing is built here!

Can't you order the phone off eBay? A guy I know orders the siccest phones from Japan and they're never released in North America.
