I know, I know, it's a topic for Mon. AM :o

Roughly, how much $$$ is a root canal ? If, in fact, two need to be done, has anybody ever heard of asking for the price of a single and at that point, make an offer on the cost of two ?

Sorry to bother you with this, it's just that my longtime business consultant and friend, Hillel, is away for a month. :1orglaugh :o :hatsoff:

Your input is valuable to me !

I believe it's around $500--$1100. I know there are some "internet dental plans" that divulge costs (atleast there were 2 years ago). Maybe do a google on Delta Dental and see if you can find costs?

In this economy, it can't hurt to try to bargain for stuff. I'm sure the dentist isn't going to turn away work in this climate.

The reputation of dentists is almost as bad as attorneys nowadays. There deceitful, lying bastards & just want to make a ton of $$$ at you & your insurance companies expense. Get a 2nd opinion. Crooks. Ive had them tell me all my fillings (amalgams) have to be replaced, scaling needs to be done....i went to another dentist & they said i didnt need any of that crap done........outragious! Here in l.a. some people drive to tijuana & get there dental work done for a fraction of the price & they have nice, modern offices, new equipment & excellent dentists. Its even cheaper paying cash there than getting it done here w/ insurance. Usually here the dentist will look at your insurance policy first to see what area they cover the most (root canals, scaling, bridges) & then when they look at your teeth they will concentrate on that area......

Geez, I had one done about five years ago, but I can't remember how much it was supposed to be. I had extremely good insurrence and my co-pay was only $5.

If I needed dental work done I would probably have to go to one of the shady ones that have their office in a dark alley to be able to afford it.

NHS dentist charge a maximum of £198 for any course of treatment regardless of how many teeth need attention :
* Band 1: £16.50. This charge includes an examination, diagnosis and preventive advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
* Band 2: £45.60. This charge includes all the necessary treatment covered by the £16.50 charge, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment or extractions.
* Band 3: £198. This charge includes all the necessary treatment that is covered by the £16.50 and £45.60 charges, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

So in the UK your root canal work would probably cost £45.60 which is roughly $70

American Dental Association and many western countries dental association has a fixed rate for all dental procedures.

This only applies to insured patients. For example, a root canal costs $600.00-$800.00. This is the standard fee the insurance company will pay to your dentist. If you have to pay out 20%, and the dentist gets 80% of the $600.00

Judging from the brief thread, I don't believe you have dental insurance (dental insurance varies so much and in some cases, you pay nothing if you have two different kinds of dental insurance)

You can ask for the price of a single for two root canal but the DENTIST WILL SAY NO !

Some good news:

1. Some states allow specially trained dental technicians to do root canals and is much cheaper. But the dentist has to inject the anesthesia, 1% or 2% lidocaine.

2. Many dental schools around the nation accept patient and you pay a fraction of the fee as a patient for the dental students. (some of them are so cute and nice, you should try it).

3. I use the same dentist for over 10 years plus, she will mark down the price $200.00. and let me have dental cleansing twice if I am not satified if the first dental hygienist.

4. Try to keep good dental hygiene because teeth are very important to all of us. But it costs well over $3,500.00 for one dental implant. (I do not recommend bridges or dentures)

5. Most dentists allow you to pay by several payments and pay few hundreds a month. You have to work out with your dentist.

6. There are many, many beautiful female dentists :lovecoupland they are so kind, you will keep going back for LIFE !! :nanner:

I felt so funny because one of the female dentist has a 40 DD and it is just too close for comfort and she pressed her chest at me ! O MY GOD, I am there to get my teeth fixed !
