I just got money and wanted to buy something that will let me listen to music when I am outside. But I know nothing about those stuff. I did look the info on Wikipedia but its just confused me. Just wanted to know which is better and what is the difference. And what is common price for them?

If all you want to do is listen to music and not watch videos you can not go wrong with the low priced I-pod shuffle IMO which goes for about $75 here.

I have both. i would go with an MP3 player. if you ever want to join one of the big music download companies -- napster, rapshody....the songs are compatible with your mp3 player. You have to convert the songs for your IPOD.

not really, my ipod plays mp3 files, they just convert into ipod files whatever they are when they are in the ipod. When you use itunes, all you have to do is drag the mp3 files into the itunes library/playlist

So how to stuff work is that I have music files in my computer (all MP3 fiels) and connected it with a USB cable and transfer? Where do I go to transfer?

Those thing play videos too? Can it upload movie files I downloaded or it too big?

What does most people use in common?

I assume they use battery? Are they rechargeable?

Get a cell phone with a mp3 player and don't carry a lot of expensive gadgets around with you.

an Ipod is a MP3 player. an Ipod plays MP3 and other media formats. as do other players as well.

in my opinion Ipod is rubbish. the reason they are doing so well is just clever marketing. they have marketed their product so well that some people don't see that it is really just another mp3 player.

I use a Sony ericsson w880i. I am very pleased with it. great sound, great bass.

If you are going to buy a mp3 phone, keep away from Motorola. I've had it (v3x), and it's rubbish!

The last Motorola phone I had stopped working 20 minutes after I bought it. Total crap.

I dont recommend Ipods, because they have a tendency to freeze for no reason, plus if you are not that good with computers an Ipod can be a very big hassle.

I had a sony mp3 player and it only held 100 songs it wasso easy to use.Just plug into my computer and drag and drop the songs in windows media player and badda bing badda boom its over and done with just like that

Heres a simple guide for putting music on an ipod.

1. Add the files to itunes using 'add file/folder to library'
2. Any converting that needs to be done it does automatically, no fuss.
3. Change or dont change song details as you wish. Pretty simple layout. na have as little or as many sections (genre, length, ect) as you want.
4. Plug in your ipod. It syncs all the previously unsynced music or podcasts to you ipod.

DONE!

Its not hard people. Plus like any technology if you press loads of buttons in quick sucsession it freeze a little. Just treat it with care like you would anything else and it wont do anything bad.

Saying that my 20gb is a 3rd generation (Oooooold!) and iv dropped it many times and it still works fine. Only freezes if i press opposite buttons too quick (which there isnt a need for, just accidental)

Wow. Most of you don't like the Ipod. I love it. I've never had other mp3 players, but the Ipod is great. I don't think it's difficult to use at all. If I add music to my collection and then plug in my ipod, it automatically adds it to my ipod. Itunes automatically downloads podcasts for me. (godsgirls.com has a podcast). Regarding the mp3 format, all you have to do is change your iTunes settings from the default AAC format to mp3. From that point on, any cd you load onto your computer will be loaded as an mp3. Music already on your computer can be imported very easily.
I use the video function all the time, which by the way can play "any" kind of video. There are programs [such as "Super"] (free on the internet) that can convert mpeg or wmv files into mp4 files (which is the necessary video file for the ipod). If you're going to use video, then you'll need a lot of space. I've got, in my entire colleciton, 6 gigs worth of music, but just one full-length movie is about that size. Then again, someone gave me my 30GB ipod, so I'm not considering price in the issue, but I can just say this. I'm definately an ipod guy.

no an iPod aint a mp3-player.
iTunes converts mp3 files into mp4-Audio so the iPod can play it.

and the iPods with display play videos in mp4-Video.
you can use a freeware (like PSP9,...) to convert most of your video files into mp4-video so your iPod can play them.

The new iPods aint that good anymore. I dont know but they have a tendency to freeze.
But I guess they should work fine after a few Firmware-updates.
An an apple is still better than a normal mp3-player.
But of course it depends on what you want to do with your player and how much money you want to spend.

There are a lot of player out there that are better than iPod, such as Creative. I recommend avoiding iPod, it has a lot of problems.

Everyone I know who owns an iPod has had to send it back at least once.

Just get a boom box and carry it on your shoulder. Bring back the style Simon, BRING IT BACK!!!

I like the Microsoft Zune. It has a nice big screen, 80 GB HDD, and good sound quality. If you know anyone with one you can share music wirelessly too.

Simply put, is a media player -- it plays music (and video depending on what type of iPod you buy). When you buy an iPod, it comes with an CD which installs iTunes software onto your PC. iTunes can also be downloaded directly from the Apple website.

iTunes is a jukebox program (it plays and rips music just like Windows Media Player or Winamp), and it's also where you manage the music for your iPod. If you want to add music to your iPod, there's a number of ways you can do it, but the simplest is as follows:

1. Connect your iPod up to your PC using the white USB cable that comes with your iPod.
2. Wait for iTunes to detect your iPod, and then drag music files onto the symbol of your iPod in iTunes.

That's it.

If you'd like to buy music, the iTunes Store is integrated into the iTunes program. All you have to do is click the 'Store' symbol in iTunes and you've connected to it. Just be aware that stuff you buy from iTunes comes with a form of DRM, meaning you can't just share the file with a friend.

There's a little confusion in this thread about which formats iPods can play -- they can and do play mp3 files without converting them to mp4 (more accurately referred to as AAC in an iPod/iTunes context). AAC actually has a noticeably better sound quality than mp3 -- AAC at 128Kbps will sound better than an mp3 at 160Kbps, and obviously this means the file size will be smaller.

The format iPods cannot play is WMA, but luckily iTunes can automatically convert them when you add them to your iPod.

As for iPods freezing, I've never ever had that problem. My iPod Nano has flash memory -- meaning I can work out, run around, do cartwheels, and the thing still won't freeze. Earlier generations of iPod (especially the models with large storage) may not have flash memory.

One last tip if you do decide to buy an iPod -- go to the Apple website for your country and do a search for "iPod Refurb". A refurb is a product which had some sort of defect and then had to be repaired by the company. These refurbs can sell for much, much cheaper prices, even though they look and work like a totally new product. ;)

In Germany the iPod doesnt come with a cd anymore!
