Die Hard = Greatest action movie ever!

Predator is a good movie and I do love the blatant homoeroticism - especially between Dutch and Dillon. But it's just not a patch on Die Hard.

Both are great movies, and both are favourites of mine, but I have to say Die Hard.

"Yippee Kay Yay Motherfucker!"

As Blueballs said "Die Hard" is the greatest contemporary action movie ever. It had compelling villains, a plausible setup, great dialogue that didn't "try too hard" to be cool and it was really suspenseful.

"Predator" was one of Arnie's best, it's a great creature film, but it loses steam a bit when the entire team get wiped out. The Predator made a lot of mistakes in tracking "Dutch" that it didn't make when it tracked the team.

Both are classics with HIGH REPEAT VIEWING POTENTIAL and both are MUST HAVES in everyone's DVD collection.

Both films were directed by John McTiernan who, along with Ridley Scott, might be the only 2 directors capable of filming a great action film today :dunno: McTiernan has been quiet in this decade but has an interesting movie called "The Camel Wars" coming out next summer.

So I am thinking about which one I liked best, (Both are great...) and it occurs to me that other than the settings, they are really similar movies...

So I do a bit of looking, and the same guy directed them both...

Never heard of him, but his other hit, Red October is one of my favs as well...

I call it a draw... :violent:

Both are... :banger:

Ahhh...back in the days when they could make action movies that didn't suck, the actors where the type of people you expected to be in those type of movies and looked the part, they didn't take everything too seriously but it wasn't to the point of being comical either, and the action and dialog were great. This thread makes me nostalgic for those days, especially considering the crap they put out now.

That's an impossible choice. Are you trying to give me sleepless nights?

Not really. Len Wiseman is not to be forgotten when talking about a contemporary movie director capable of making a good action movie. Then you got Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) who have both proven that they can direct great action movies. And Renny Harlin has proven with Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2 and Deep Blue Sea, that he as well can direct a great action movie, if he wants to.

Both have great lines, extraterrestrial hunter or international terrorist-thieves....fuck this is a tough one...It's like getting both my arms stuck in a furnace and thinking of which one to amputate!

I've seen both these movies a million times and never knew that they were directed by the same guy.

I love Die Hard. my favorite scene is wen Hans says, "I am an exceptional thief, Mrs McClane. And since I'm moving up to kidnapping, you should be more polite."

lol Classic. I also think that the film makers decision to have this all take place during the Christmas season was a good touch.
