I'm talking from a business standpoint not from a personal one. Say you discover the cure for cancer. One of the big pharmaceutical companies comes and offers you tons of money for your research but also makes you sign a contract saying that you can't talk about your findings ever. They in turn take your research and study it and what not to find a way to create a **** that won't cure the disease but instead will let you live with it as long as you're taking the pharmaceutical company's pills.

A cure equals a one time shopper, living with said disease equals repeat business.

I totally agree with what you said and the sad fact is that it's 100% true.

No money in it? If I found the cure for AIDS tomorrow, by next Friday I'm a multimillionare. Do you know how much money people would pay for a cure for every disease known? I'm not saying that money is the main reason why we should find cures for these diseases. I'm saying that every person on the planet has the right to live a normal healthy life without disease or affliction.

You know another member here who I respect a lot once said in response to some story about a cure for some form of cancer quote "wouldn't it be great if nobody ever died again"? While people getting sick and dying and all is of course heartbreaking and very tough to see think about what that member said for a moment and its consequences.Most here didn't get what he was trying to say.
And let me just say this idea that space exploration is not a good investment I think is not true.Even forgetting what we learn when we get to such places with probes and what not the amount of developement that has been realized by just overcoming the the technical difficulties is tremendous.The US going to the moon resulted in a lot of new technolgies that we all take for granted now.That money spent on space expolration as compared to things like military spending is much more effective and well spent IMO.:2 cents:
