I do an OCSM tracking contest each year that no one cares about each year. I think I've been pretty fortunate to select winners who are truly active each year all year long. I'm guessing that FO doesn't have the sponsors like they did last year so a few of the categories might get cut. I like the categories, but that's a lot of money to shell out. Here are my ideas:

Keep the Miss FO category obviously.
Keep the OCSM category obviously.
Nothing to foreign performers, but this category seems a little verbose. Miss FOs is an international competition.
Keep the Adult Model/Cam Only Model category. Some girls just don't do b/g porn but get naked for us. I think they deserve a shot at some extra recognition. Solo girls have it rough enough as is. It's one of the harder markets in the porn industry to maintain a career.
Keep the Best Newcomer category.

I think that's all they really need is 4 categories. It would keep most people satisfied and they wouldn't have to shell out a bunch of cash. Give the big prize to Miss FO (wasn't it $10K last year) and then $1K-2K for the rest).

Firstly, "scooter", where did I say that the message boards defined Freeones? I don't recall saying that I was one of those people who said that the contest should be limited to board members only, so where exactly is your tone coming from? Second, yes, I'm well aware of the fact that there is a site outside of the board, thanks. Thirdly, if you want a Miss Message Board, there's already a category called Best OCSM, but apparently you were unaware of that. I'm perfectly fine with things how they are, it's not like I put much weight into the contest myself. If your kneejerk reaction is to bitch and complain about me stating the opinions of others, go ahead, but the fact that you're not even a year into posting here and you're acting condescending towards me makes me want to tell you to go jump off a duck.

Not wanting to appear biased, but....



... this point, out of context, makes it sound as though her board membership was purely about last year's Miss FO, when in actuality she had signed up and started posting early as September '12 to speak to fans, answer questions and also refute some of the bullshit being spread concering other matters about her career, often in a pithy manner that doesn't exactly scream "six month campaign to try and earn Miss FO votes." I won't deny that the aftermath probably had something to do with her saying "to hell with this place" but to be honest, the board does not have a sparkling record when it comes to retaining active "big name" pornstars as OCSMs anyway.

Let's be honest - Miss FreeOnes is a popularity contest ran by a porn website, voted for by porn fans, the vast majority of whom consume their porn and know what/who they like without feeling the need to join a message board to talk about it, and thus have no reason to care about whether their favourite performer is an active member or not, they'll just see her name and vote for her. For all the complaining we could do about contestants not playing an active role on the board, from Jayden Jaymes to Kortney Kane to Rachel Starr, the board manages to turn off an awfully high proportion of the pornstars that do sign up and make an attempt at interacting with their fans. Futhermore, I can imagine some active stars might look into the board and consider signing up only to change their minds at some of the horrible things written about them in their own threads. To my mind the complaining that our OCSMs don't get more votes or rank higher in the main category belongs in the same boat as some of the comments in the "FO top 100 searched in 2013" thread - it's a popularity contest, a big part of popularity is due to visibility, and the non-board voters are likely to outnumber the rest of us, simple as.

That said, the active OCSMs deserve a lot of love and respect for the interaction they have with us and perhaps also for being thick-skinned enough to stick around even though there can be an unpleasant side to the board. They deserve our support, and they also deserve recognition. That's why we also have the "Best OCSM" category, which not only gives we the board members a chance to vote for who we love most, but also gives a chance for non board members to have a glance while they're doing their voting in other categories.

In summary ; as has been written many times, FO is much bigger than this board, and Miss FO will not just be about who we the board love. Accept that, don't get too stressed about it, let your votes do the talking and try and enjoy the likely influx of fresh fapping material the scramble for votes will provide.

I get your point, and I went and looked at her posts, she has 27. A good majority of which, were because of the unpleasantness we are speaking of. Sure, it's about the WHOLE of the industry, and sure, it's a popularity contest, that can be voted on, by members I've never heard of...but the fact remains, it's still true. Lets face it, the context of my post wasn't to accuse, or make the winner feel bad, but as an example to make a point as to why the girls we see everyday, and have come to grow fond of, because they to our like our other internet buddies...only cuter, and with boobies...and we like to look out for them. Christy very well may be one of the most popular girls in the industry, but look at the top 20...Brandi Love is on it almost every day, and she hasn't won. So even though it is, what it is...it still doesn't mean we shouldn't try and make the girls we talk to every day, feel better about how important they are to us. And I realize you weren't ragging on me, your point is noted, but as far as context goes, someone would have to seriously want to be a douche to twist that post around...and that's when I'll call you, to drop the ban hammer.

Some of us regular posters (if I may call myself such) forget what the real purpose of the Miss FO contest is all about. It's not to reward the most deserving porn star, or model, or whatever. While I was among the many shaking my head at who won, the contest served its purpose...

...which is to promote FreeOnes. That's what it's ACTUAL purpose is.

And it succeeds at it pretty well. The site gets a ton of press/PR for a cheap price.

And it was a good post, I can see the purpose of the contest, and the business aspect, but I also see the side of the girls that really , really want to be here, and the guys that enjoy their presence...and the disappointment of losing to someone that never even stops by, or maybe doesn't even have a membership. I think we're both making valid points, maybe even the same point...just maybe not exactly the same way, or just slightly different in our opinions. I think that's about as close as we can get, without actually hijacking this thread for our own conversation.

I wouldn't necessarily call it arguing. For the most part, people seem to be (sometimes heatedly) discussing the issues the contest breeds and their frustrations. Even if one were to call it argumentative, in some ways is it not better to potentially address or diffuse a potential debacle now then when the actual event happens?

If I wanted to be nice, I'd say it's somewhat akin for cheering on your favourite sporting team. Cheer on your favourite model in "the big game."

If I wanted to be harsh, I'd say it's another consequence of an excess of affection (bordering on obsession) towards the model/pornstar in question caused by any number of reasons - genuine (though misguided) unrequited love for the image & perceived personality, unsatisfactory or complete lack of sex life, transference, Madonna-Whore complex - any number of reasons. I think that's got something to do with it for a lot of us said people.

First of all, I'm not "ignoring" this thread. I actually pull 40+ hour weeks so I try not to post over the weekend so I can have some "non-work time."

Secondly, this is also the first time today I've been to anything other than the raffle thread. I haven't even been at my computer for about half of the day. You know how we keep harping the board isn't all of FreeOnes? Goes for our work too.

I'm sure I can write a long post about a lot of comments made in this thread. There's been some great suggestions and some good points. However, all I can let you do is speculate for the most part since there hasn't even been a yes or no to the contest.

Yes Dirk, wouldn't that be interesting. There were a number of counts over the last year, tallying the votes declared by members on the threads. I wonder what the total would look like.

Roald always said FO was much more than the board. Roald still thinks the board is important, even in his new employment he still comes to post in his Roald account as well as his 17 one.

I agree there are some very good posts on here.

I would be interested in Petras comments too.

Funny enough, I really can't tell you how many votes are board votes vs. anonymous because of the way that we have our system set up. Something that is very important to me (I actually created Miss FreeOnes, it's my baby) is that this be a FAN contest. There's been so many other ones out there that were supposed to be fan contests (at least fans get to vote) but weren't really.

So yea. I'm not going to get into this, but I also think releasing the statistics at the end of a contest isn't the worse idea ever.

And, even though the board isn't all of FreeOnes, it IS important. It's a very important part of FreeOnes, it's our community. But it's also only one part like how a babe section is only one part and how the video section is only one part. We can't realistically do all or nothing on ANY part of FreeOnes. It all needs love.

I'm not going to comment about the contest itself since I've yet to make an official announcement. Hopefully I'll be able to say yay or nay to a contest in a few months.
