Meet The Press - Jake Sullivan / Liz Cheney

Sad to see. Bad planning, bad execution. Finger pointing when leadership is needed the most. Watching CNN and seeing the poll that 56% of Americans thinks we will be going back for ISIS.
That is really the only point. Witnessing the sad events and lack of leadership That seems to continue.
Your link pointed out that it is what both presidents wanted. The results showed they both mishandled this. so, that isn’t a point.

The military killed two of the ISIS K leaders involved. That is a good thing.

The problem was started when Bush/Cheney went in without a plan. A search & destroy targeted at specific terrorists may have been a better approach on hindsight.

As I read the news this morning, the significance of these specific interviews really shines through.
There never was a legitimate plan in place and the administration's statements of accountability are a contradiction to reality.

It's lovely how desperate fans of The Orange Swine are to pin tHe aFgHaNiStAn fAiLuRe on President Biden.

Trump set things in motion to leave. He depleted forces and basically released thousands.
Pretty poor leadership.
Biden hits upon a record pace for executive orders, many of them reversing Trump’s policies.

Not surprisingly, the leaders include prisons released from Gitmo in another less than brilliant presidential move.

I’m not sure if it is being blinded by hate, an incredible lack of understanding, or undying love for a political hack, but 8 months in, when you have shown you have the ability to reverse policies, a poor executed plan is on Biden. It doesn’t absolve the one you hate of anything. …or Obama and definitely not Bush, who own it ultimately.

Great article. Through Biden's first 100 days he issued 52 executive orders - 24 of which reversed a Trump EO. Trump issued 39 through his first 100. (52 - 24) < 39. Trump was leading after the first 100 days (through April 30).

Through Aug 31 of 2017 and 2021: Trump had 45 EOs and Biden had 57 (less 25 revocations). Trump seems to be winning the EO race handily after according for Biden fixing Trump's EOs.

No argument. Interesting analysis.

Was continuing on your thought. We would need to subtract Trump’s reversals, too
It would be easiest if there was a source that did that math, but I’m not finding it.

If EOs are basically orders to execute policy, this is all really a non-issue. My original point was that President Biden has not been shy about changing policy, so 8 months in it would be fair to say he is directing the execution of policy.

I think there are some examples of EOs being used in attempt to circumvent law. These public servants that are doing that run the risk of a partisan Congress’ wrath and ultimately weakening the office.

You can find them here:
https://www.federalregister.gov/presidential-documents/executive-orders

You can download them into Excel. When I looked last night I did not note Trump revoking anything through the period considered.

To me the issue is Congress failing to be a functional body. They keep deferring decisions to the other two branches. As a legislative body, they need to legislate. Right now, it appears to me to be a polarized social media group. America claims to have this great center party, but somehow our leaders are at the poles.

So yes, the Executive needs to act. Else, no much substantive and sustainable gets done.

Nice work!

Looks like if the titles are right, he revoked 48 and 15 were by EOM August. That was quick clicking, so probably a mistake in there.

Agree with your comments. Congress has done a great job in weakening their role by deferring to executive agencies.
