I've got a question, primarily for any Spanish or US members, about the meaning of the word hispanic
As i understand "hispanic" is used in the US as a racial classification eg native american, black, hispanic, white etc, meaning that it is a different classification from "white"
I find this a bit weird because in Europe people from Spain are considered to be white "caucasian".
Can anybody clarify this a bit - does a Spaniard depart from Madrid airport "white" and arrive in New York "hispanic" ?
( p.s. - please don't try to find any racist over / undertones in this topic - i'm not into any of that **** & this thread is just me trying to answer a question i've had for ages )
( p.p.s. - not looking for any mega-condescending answers either if there turns out to be a simple explanation )
