McCain pulls out of Michigan

We stand behind you, Mr. Obama!

John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

McCain will go off TV in Michigan, stop dropping mail there and send most of his staff to more competitive states, including Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Wisconsin went for Kerry in 2004, Ohio and Florida for Bush.

A McCain aide confirmed the move and chalked it up to the state's Democratic tilt and the resources Obama had put in place there.

"It was always a long shot for us to win," said the aide.

McCain will now turn his attention to bolstering his defenses in Ohio and Florida while putting more resources into Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and the second congressional district of Maine, where there is a sole electoral vote available.

Obama's campaign offered a muted response to McCain's decision to abandon Michigan, only promising to keep it in the Democratic column.

"We will continue to fight for every vote in Michigan because middle class families there just cannot afford more of the same," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

The Illionis Democrat was in Michigan today but didn't mention McCain's move.

Republicans had been bullish on Michigan, hopeful that McCain's past success in the state in the 2000 primary combined with voter dissatisfaction with Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm and skepticism among blue-collar voters about Barack Obama could make it competitive.

McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin spent the first night after the GOP convention at a large rally in Macomb County, just outside Detroit. The two returned later last month for another sizable event in Grand Rapids.

But recent polls there have shown Obama extending what had been a small lead, with the economic crisis damaging an already sagging GOP brand in a state whose economy is in tatters.

A McCain event planned for next week in Plymouth, Mich., has been canceled.

Too bad the boyfriend of Sarah Palin's daughter didn't.

I don't know...wouldn't she consider that murder?

:sing: Every sperm is sacred...:sing:

Please, please don't send him to Florida! Bucs are doing well, Rays are doing well, and McCain is coming here. Why oh why oh why?

I expected that down the road, being a tried and true blue state. Obama has been reviewing his campaigning in ND and MO as well. On both accounts, why devote resources to a losing cause.

Glad to hear it though!

Thats one of Obama's big advantages ,money. He can afford to make McCain defend traditionally red states which takes away McCains oppurtunity's to spend money in the blue ones.
Bad news though AFA Florida is a key battleground as you know of course. You will visited a lot by both and see lots of commercials.

Polls have been turning against him dramatically in Florida. I'd go somewhere else if I was him. Somewhere I was wanted, somewhere over the rainbow where people believed in magic. Where you just click your heels together and wish upon a star.

Maybe Little Diomede Island?

This presidential race is so polarized even the black Mayor of Detroit who committed murder, corruption and all the sex scandal, black will still vote for the black candidate.

McCain should have a chance in McComb and Oakland counties and western Michigan, Grand Rapid and northern part of I-75 beyond Flint. But the economy is not doing well and people blaming Bush and McCain.

Even Jesse Jackson won Michigan in the Democratic Primary using Rainbow Coalition banner. I still believe if McCain knows how to use volunteers, ground troops, and open field offices across the entire lower Michigan, McCain still has a shot but his resources are very limited and Sarah Palin becomes a detraction for him. McCain constantly has to defend Palin.

I do believe McCain has to win Ohio but may lose Michgian !

McCain pulls out of Michigan

And paparazzi swarmed in to catch the gape on Mrs. McCain's lovehole.

Gotta pick your battles.. cuz it's looking like the war is turning in favor of Obama in a big way. A few decisive victories will keep it close, but if the polls and expected massive turnout of minority voters are as accurate as people are saying.. well, we're just going thru the motions until he steps into office, then.

You live in Florida? This kinda shows that McCain has no chance.
