Who do you think is THE Master of Horror?

Poe. No one, I think, has ever, or may ever, create a more somber, macabre feeling on written pages. He had a way that was pure magic.......even now over a hundred years later his stories still send shudders down your spine. Stephen King is maybe one tenth as effective.

Interesting question, as I'm a *HUGE* genre fanatic and collector (I have well over 700 DVDs; not the biggest collection in the world, but all mostly Giallos, old school Slashers, Zombie epics, Cannibal tales, Cult films, stand-up comedy which I feel is an art fourm, ect).

While I believe it's all a matter of taste, really, as to WHO the official Master of Horror is, I have three personal favorites.

And those personal faves are:

John Carpenter
George Romero (has always remained in Pittsburgh, and now Toronto, and refuses to "go out to Hollywood to get paid to fart")
Dario Argento

While I feel that they're better days are all well behind them, I still feel that all three are living legends, and the line forms well behind them in my humble opinion.

Nice collection britlover.

Why thank you. ;)

By the way, for the Poll, for the opinions given, I selected Mr. Carpenter. I feel he is a master of truely composing for the Widescreen format, and a fine story teller back in the good ol' days of the '70s and '80s and well into the mid '90s with at least very noteable films.

Hitchcock was a master, no doubt. But of horror? I don't think so. His work was more varied than just horror it's hard to label him as that.

John Carpenter.
H.P. Lovecraft.
Don Coscarelli.
Clive Barker.
Stephen King.
Lucio Fulci.
