Marketing Scams

This is a story I've pulled off the net.What took them so long to realise this.I get on average of 30 emails on 3 email addresses,3 phone calls and 2 through the post everyday.But use the same tactic with them all now delete the emails without looking,just hang up the phone without speaking and just tear up the post.Simple but I still get them and it's annoying.

More than half of Britons aged 15 and over have been targeted by mass market scams, research has found.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is set to unveil the figures in the initial findings of its research into scams and their impact on UK consumers.

Jonathan Rusch, special counsel for fraud prevention at the US Department of Justice, will be a guest speaker at the London event.

Fraudsters are turning to new technology to develop sophisticated ways of conning people out of money, the


watchdog has warned.
These include low cost mass-marketing techniques such as email, text messages and the internet.

The OFT has carried out a survey of more than 4,000 people. Findings released ahead of today's conference showed that 59% of respondents had been targeted by mass market scams.

OFT chief executive John Fingleton will address the event, which comes during the watchdog's scams awareness month.

Figures from 2004-05 indicated that 28 million UK consumers were targeted every year by scams which exploited low-cost mass marketing techniques - including phone calls and post
