Manhunt 2 Still Banned in UK

The Matrix (cyber-thriller-action epic with Keanu Reeves) was released in the UK in 1999, in 2006 it was released uncut in the UK.

Using that as an example, I'm not holding my breath for Manhunt 2 in the UK, then again I thought the original Manhunt was dreadful.

All this beacause they are worried that people act out things depicted in the games/movies. Is this film more or less violent and gruesome than any of the other violent games?

I was a bit modest, told her not to show everyone that tattoo. Hehe!

Big thanks to Poggy for sig, hoping for another.

A long time ago, I saw an interview with James Ferman (formerly of the BBFC) where he mentioned that his decision not to release The Exorcist on video back in the mid-90's was the idea that people would watch it in their bedrooms and freak out.

Maybe nowadays the BBFC think kids are going to play Manhunt 2 in their bedrooms, while fondling plastic bags? In the game Condemned: Criminal Origins the main medhod of killing is melee, or bashing your enemies to death with pipes/bars/hammers etc and yet that was passed without a blink, perhaps the problem with Manhunt 2 is that it's made by Rockstar Games, the always controversial makers of the Grand Theft Auto series.:2 cents:

It is the responsibility of the parent to approve what games their children play, I remember playing on live one night, the game being played was an 18 certificate, a child who was playing with the group, was the offspring of the room leader. The game was not particularly violent despite its rating, but what is the point of ratings at all when parents do not care what their child is doing, hell when they are endorsing it from another room!

Im all for games being as violent as they can make them, its a game after all, Im not going to go beat down someone who annoys me because I saw it in a game two days prior. When people claim a murder was motivated by in game action, maybe they should pause to think and wonder maybe the kid was just a psychopath to begin with. If you try hard enough you can justify anything and pass on the buck onto those who dont deserve the label.

I play football games, but I don't wanna go out and play football in real life...

But if I play violent video games, that obviously means I will go out and kill people, right?

Banning it just makes me want it even more.

what the fuck you lookin at?
I STILL say bull fucking shit!

and it is all because some retard went out and killed one of his mate with a plastic bag, he also just happen to have played man hunt too, i say bullshit to it all as well, if it was true than why am i not out killing people i have play loads of violent video games and watch tons of violent films too even seen a few snuff movie !! and i would love to play man hunt 2

Can't believed it was banned because it's unsuitable for young people, heres a tip don't sell it to them. I hate it when parents complain games are too violent for children but if they would stop buying them for their children there wouldn't be a problem.

I recall with much revelry a scene from my work. A father and his two young sons, 8-10 years old, he is purchasing Grand Theft Auto, but he cant make his mind up, Liberty City or Vice City.

So he leans over to his son and asks "Which one do you want?"

I interject, if only because Im an advocate of parents not being dumb shits and buying their underage children games they arent old enough for.

"You are aware the game is an 18?" He looks up at me, almost as if I have offended him, he fires back,

"Its for me!" Fighting the urge I dont roll my eyes, he pays and leaves. Im left with the image of the 9 year old playing GTA, proof that once again a parents urge to satisfy their child, leaves them, as the prime example why we suffer for game content.

Seeing as parents really can't control what games their kids are playing without being a pain in the ass, I don't think the argument is that void. There's a difference between being able to find things (like being able to find snuff porn on the internet without warnings) and having it shoved in your face as a commercial (like Manhunt). Personally, since games like these only contribute to a more negative outside-attitude towards violence in gaming - I think censoring it is a cheap price to pay to satisfy all the old people that can't stand it. The violence in games like Manhunt and Postal differs from the violence in GTA in the way that it has no excuse to it. Neither Postal nor Manhunt are good games, despite the bizarre entertainment value in morbid creativity.

So having a crappy game censored (be it Manhunt 2 from the US or Super Mega Ultimate Saga Quest VII from Japan) in order to increase the general popularity and promote justified violence in games (such as GTA and other violent, yet qualitative games) is a pretty nice trade. And calling it an assault on freedom and abuse of censorship is just ridiculous. Any sane man above the age of 15 can get a hold of a copy anyway - and it's not like Manhunt is necessary for the public interest or education.

In conclusion, I couldn't care less whether Manhunt is censored or not, since games like these always suck. But I guess that in a matter of principles, it's wrong.

I remember once seeing a documentary on TV about violence in games, were some guy bought his kid, GTA: Vice City, and acted horrified by the violence claiming that he thought it was a "driving game", maybe he just didn't notice the pics on the back cover (eyes roll).

Anyone remember Doom 3? That was OK by the sensors, running around a demon-infested marine base on Mars killing zombies and demons with a chainsaw or blasting the minions of Hell to pieces, mainly because you're not actually killing people (Manhunt II). Now, if Rock Star Games replaced the people in Manhunt II with zombies the game would be released uncut without problem.

Just to reference Condemned (a dark mindfuck of a game if ever there was one), I still believe that Rock Star Games has a certain stigma attached to them.

Surely after it's US release, it'll be copied and bootleggers will sell and make a tidy sum for the chipped PS2 brigade in the UK.
