Man Contracts AIDS Through Kidney Transplant

ATLANTA -- A transplant patient contracted AIDS from the kidney of a living donor, in the first documented case of its kind in the U.S. since screening for HIV began in the mid-1980s.

It turns out the donor had unprotected gay sex in the 11 weeks between the time he tested negative and the time the surgery took place in 2009.

In a report Thursday on the New York City case, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that organ donors have repeat HIV tests a week before surgery.

"The most sensitive test needs to be done as close as possible to the time of transplant," said Dr. Colin Shepard, who oversees tracking of HIV cases for the New York City Health Department.

The CDC also said would-be organ donors should be told to avoid behavior that can increase their chances of infection.

I thought they didn't even let gay guys do things like donate ***** or organs. Too bad for the victim here. :2 cents: I smell a lawsuit coming soon.

Being gay isn't an issue he could have had sex with a woman with AIDS with the same result. You can't rely on 11 weeks old test results and the donor should be tested when in hospital in the days before the transplant.

Male homosexual sex is the most dangerous kind of sex there is, period. I'm not going to go on other than that, because if you don't believe that then you are fooling yourself. Everybody knows this is a fact. Of course other kinds of sex are dangerous, but that right there is top.

I kow way too many fools that got infected because of that kind of mentality, and refusal to wear condoms. Furthermore, why are we not banning ppl that have sex with Africans, when Africans have much higher hiv rates than the US gay community?
