Ohio police officer Bradley Walker said he heard the dog barking uncontrollably inside his patrol car while he was investigating a car crash at a pub last weekend.

Stephens was ‘making barking noises and was hissing at the police dog inside of the car’ at on Sunday morning, a police report said.

‘Timber (the dog) responded as trained and started to bark,’ Officer Walker wrote.

Officer Walker said he tried to confront Stephens, but he walked away and ignored commands to stop.

Stephens was allegedly asked why he was harassing the animal and replied: ‘The dog started it’.

Officer Walker said Stephens showed signs of being ‘highly intoxicated’ and was warned he was being detained before being ordered to sit in the back of another car.

Officers told Stephens ‘deliberate teasing would result in the (dog) responding aggressively and that response could potentially injure the (dog)’, police said.

Stephens was released to a bar employee who promised to drive him home. He was unavailable for comment and will appear in municipal court on April 21.

asked why he was harassing the animal

Really?

Why do police sleep in their patrol cars when they are supposed to be working? They do other things when they are supposed to be working.

Anybody who needlessly attracts the attention of the cops deserves to be arrested . . or at least be detained and put under a 72 hr. psych evaluation - 51/50 watch. :1orglaugh

What a dumbass. If you can't handle your alcohol, then don't drink.

He was antagonizing a police dog sitting in a cruiser. Next time, let the dog out of the car and see how funny the guy thinks it is to get maimed.

The dog most likely did start it. Just sitting there, crapping all over the yard, barking at vehicles, and finding your stash of awesome drugs. That bitch had it coming!

They're on fuel conservation programs . . . i.e. less patrols more  :1orglaugh

Seriously, in my parts, cops seem to be parking it a lot lately . . . it's like they've set up sub stations in church and bankrupt business parking lots. 9 out of ten times I drive by these selected sites, there they are at idle, probably bored out of their skulls too.

A police dog is a piece of police equipment, similar to a gun or a alcohol detector.

If you meddle with these, as an example: Throw the gun on the ground repeatedly, it might go off.

Off course you will get fined for behaviour like that.

Completely justified arrest. A drunk idiot gets into a barking match with a dog and thinks the "He started it" argument is a good one? Morons get no sympathy from me.

Now, that's interesting, but deserved one for a drunk. If the man could give a dumb statement like, "the dog started it", just think what else he could do.

Eating, playing with their laptop or cell phone, or sleeping.
