Billy Joel announces Madison Square Garden residency

Dec. 3, 2013, 12:52 PM EST

NEW YORK (AP) -- Billy Joel will perform once a month at Madison Square Garden -- if fans will have him.

The icon announced Tuesday that he'll perform a residency at the famed NYC venue once a month for as many months as New Yorkers demand. He's set to perform sold-out shows on Jan. 27, Feb. 3, March 21 and April 28. He will also perform on his 65th birthday, which is May 9. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

Joel said in a statement that "there's no place like coming home to The Garden." The Bronx-born Joel first performed at MSG in 1978.

What a nice deal. Once a month drive down the Long Island Expressway. This gig could last forever.

next he'll be playing at the fair.

or does he do that already? i bet he does.

I don't think so. He had already sold out 12 consecutive nights there. Bruce Springsteen had sold out Giant Stadium 5 consecutive nights. Just like Vegas contracting acts for an entire year. NYC is a top tourist city. Radio City Christmas with the Rockettes sells out 2 and 3 shows a night every night for 2 months every year since time can remember. I think it's a great marketing move.

Sometimes that ride down the L.I.E can take a month...
Worst traffic in the continental US.
