This season Ronaldo has been better but for the last 5 seasons, Messi has been light years ahead of Ronaldo. So Messi overall.

Ronaldo for me. He's been fucking incredible for both Man United and Real, and while Messi has at times sparkled like the brightest star in a galaxy of them in THAT Barcelona team, I've never seen him grab games by the balls and win them by himself when the team is underperforming, as I have Ronaldo. Plus I always think Messi looks average when he trots out for Argentina, we've never seen how he'd do at club level without Xavi and Iniesta, and while he's amazing to watch, I just don't think he gives you as much as Ronaldo in terms of pace, power, crossing ability, heading, shooting from distance and positional play. I think you could put Ronaldo in any team in the world right now and he'd still be awesome, whereas I always think of Messi as "unbelievable for Barcelona, OK for his country."

We're blessed that both are around and in their prime today so we can even make this comparison. Future fans will view this time as the equivalent of if Pele and Diego Maradona played for rivals and routinely opposed each other.
