From being the host of shows for families to an anchor for sports fans watching TSN, Lindsay Hamilton has always challenged herself. And she’s just getting started.
“I think it’s important to constantly set new goals for yourself. I have a notebook filled with goals,” she said.
Hamilton joined TSN’s Sportscentre in September, already armed with years of TV experience beginning at just 18 years old as a reporter for The Family Channel specialty TV service.
Newest Sportscaster at TSN - Athlete, Family Channel Host Lindsay Hamilton
Newest Sportscaster at TSN, Lindsay Hamilton: “Growing up in a crowded household, I find a sense of familiarity in a bustling newsroom – it’s action packed, it has a great pace and a spontaneous energy. I love it.”
As the middle child in a family of five siblings, she was used to competition early on. She played “every sport under the sun” and it’s what kicked off her interest in athletics.
But her entrance into the sportscasting world was anything but conventional.
“I was the host at Family Channel and was with them for over five years,” she said. Hamilton’s work included interviewing pop stars, travelling across North America to host movie premieres and co-host anti-bullying campaigns.
It wasn’t until her time at McMaster University that she developed her love for sports media, and played lacrosse for Team Ontario and on the varsity.
But since McMaster didn’t have a sports radio program, she ended up pitching one to a local radio station.
“After that it was a lot of hard work, often working seven days a week through Thanksgiving, Christmas, you name it,” she said.
This experience kick-started her career in radio and she eventually went on to be employed by various sports media including the Pan Am Games, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and CBC’s News Network as their sports reporter.
After a stint of envy-worthy opportunities, Hamilton caught the eye of the folks at TSN. “Late in the summer TSN reached out to me and asked me to come in and audition. Fast forward and here I am – working alongside the best anchors in the business and enjoying every minute,” she said.
Now she loves the unpredictable, spontaneous nature of her job, where every single day is different. And a love for what she does is clear.
“With the weather as nice as it’s been recently, I’ve been going for some nice long rides while listening to TSN podcasts,” she said. “The other day I rode to Mississauga to Toronto while listening to the previous day’s OverDrive podcast.”

During the day she’s constantly keeping up-to-date on what’s going on in the sports world, by “watching TSN, reading articles, listening to the radio.” Once that is all said and done, she’s in bed around 2-2:30 a.m.
The self-proclaimed “chocoholic” grew up admiring Brenda Irving and watching Sam Ponder throughout undergrad. Hamilton is also a fan of great interviewers like Larry King and Barbara Walters. Eventually she hopes to interview athletes to spotlight their personal stories. She also wants to inspire girls in sports, pointing to the impact it has on character-building.
At 26-years-old, the newest sportscaster at TSN brings a fresh approach to a rooted industry with her energetic delivery and insight. It’s clear that her experiences hosting and connecting with people make her a natural on-air presenter. It’s also what viewers seem to appreciate.
“There are special notes I’ve received from viewers that have truly brightened my day and social media allows me to feel more connected with audiences,” she said.
For Hamilton, her love for sports is not just about the numbers on a scoreboard, but the ethic it evokes in all facets of life. “Sports teach teamwork, independence, confidence, discipline, perseverance and persistence,” she said. “Sport also has such an impactful way of bringing communities together, regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. When you are cheering for the team, you become like brothers and sisters.”
