This little guy is so cool looking, I hope they name him Gamera. The only thing is, I kind of feel bad for the little guy, because he's so rare, you have to wonder how much he's going to be poked and prodded, obviously within reason. I would love to go to the Galapagos Islands, but no one is allowed there. It amazes me, that some of these animals were around, during the Civil war.

That looks awesome. I would think they would pamper him and treat him even more carefully than the regular "rare" tortoise, so I think he's safe. I can't wait to see what he will look like when fully grown!

Tortoises reach sexual maturity between 10 and 20 years old, when their carapace, or upper shell, reaches 6 to 8 inches long. They're polygamous, mating with many partners.

I'm hoping to make it another 20. I think in the grand scheme though, 10 years is a long time until the animal breeds. That's why white shark populations are dropping, they don't start reproducing for quite a long time either,
