Life After Porn

Thank you for the article

Thanks Dude.. I just wanted to use soft words cauz the meaning is obvious no matter what we say... love - sex connection is very complicated.. call it simulation of or virtual love making. Thanks Roald, I guess, sometimes it's a good idea to think of porn stars as normal real people.

Thanks Smallville. I'm just upset because for some reason I lost the poll while posting, and it seems you can't add it later. I wanted to know the people's opinion about ex-porn stars. Can they begin a fresh normal life? .. or they should live in solitude because their fame is shame.

There is no such thing as life after porn. It's a myth.

Well.. isn't it sad to enjoy their works then later treat them like trash?

The real issue is the way we stigmatize porn. I personally am not a fan of porn becoming too mainstream because I think it will lose what makes it so interesting and so enjoyable, but we also don't have to ostracize those who perform and work in it.

assari & tudor, you are right. I guess the reason is that we don't like to be fully responsible for what we do or say when we are horny. Sex shows human other nature because when the person is sexually turned on, he/she is a kind of different person for example judging views, taste or smell are different. The point is that many people like to enjoy sex or porn only privately, but publicly they stigmatize it. Porn business now is widely considered an entertainment but maybe still full of tricks, deception and mess.

well put!:)

I guess it's a myth that porn actors and actresses have sex more often than the average person. Maybe the contrary, because when they prepare for shooting esp for big companies, they go through a strict program supervised by specialists (in fitness, health etc.) in order to show their maximum sex skills to the audience in the shooting session. Naturally, the pay has to be worth the sex diet and said to reach 10.000 bucks a day in hardcore movies. In one old interview, a porn actor said that he stopped having sex for weeks before the shooting because he need to practice many positions while maintaining erection for over an hour even in rehearsal. So working in porn doesn't mean enjoying easy sex anytime; it's a hard work and I don't envy them. Cheap prostitute can be fucked many times a day, but that's different, despite that the ancient sex business has produced the porn industry which became very advanced after the expansion of the internet.

Until you can hope your daughter does porn, support and encourage her to do it, you, I and all of society will "ostracize" porn stars.
While we all LOVE pornography for obvious self indulging reasons us 'normal' people don't want anyone we love connected to it in any way.

Ridiculous, short sighted and stupid. So you ostracize everyone doing anything you wouldn't want your daughter to do?

I wouldn't want my hypothetical daughter to be become a buddhist, or to decide to work as a Cop in East St. Louis, or become a circus performer. I wouldn't ostracize others who choose those paths.

And considering what you wrote, it seems you consider sexual performers to be abnormal people. If you hold them in such low esteem, you really need to get off this board and not watch any porn.

Relax bud...don't take it personal.
I was making a vague metaphorical statement...Further, notice my quotation marks around the word "ostracize". That may be the wrong choice of a word to use.
BUT, unless you live under a rock or refuse to acknowledge reality you and I both know that anything like pornography that general society doesn't embrace outside the closet is thought to be underground, weird, immoral and wrong. Even if you jack yourself silly to porn daily you probably still won't talk about it or the people related to it in high regard when given the chance. It's just the way it is dude...like it or not.

Case and point:
How would you handle this conversation with your "hypothetical daughter?"
"You know dad I was thinking about giving up on pursuing a career as a veterinarian and just becoming a porn star instead."
Would you say:
"Yeah, Jenny, I'm all for it, do whatever makes you happy. I hear porn stars make a great living."
Or would you say:
"Don't you dare even think about Jenny, porn stars are all lowlife trash and if you stoop that low I will dis-own you!"

Most would handle it more like the latter example.

anyone who handles it more like the latter example should NOT be reproducing. porn stars are people like anyone else and are no less deserving of respect because of what they do for money.

Neither answer actually.

I would say nothing. I would say to her "give me a few hours to do some thinking." And then I would go and ask myself, "what is going on in her life right, now? Is she confused, scared, upset, are there people in her life that are hurting her emotionally, is our relationship damaged and is she trying to tell me she needs my attention and love and might this be a ploy to get me to care about her more." Once I had some ideas I would go and talk to her about her day to day life and ask her to explain to me in full detail what her motivations and reasons are for making a decision like this.

That second reaction is shortsighted, impulsive and stupid. It is more about YOU than it is about HER. It's about how you feel about how what she is doing to you. It is exactly the kind of reaction to a young persons confusions and frustrations that lead to drug addiction and acting out. A parents fist impulse has to to be guidance and guidance is based on understanding the difficulties your child faces, you do that with listening and sending the message that you care far more about how she feels as she moves through the world than how anything she does will make you feel.

Note: I am not saying there is anything she could say that would make me feel good about the decision, but I certainly wouldn't start screaming about disowning her.

And it is possible for a young woman to decide to pursue a sexual job and be doing it from a place of wanting to experience a very different life. And it is possible for that to come from a healthy place.

Porn will always have to watch out for making sure damaged people don't pull it down. But I have a lot more faith in the decision making of woman than a lot of people.
