Justin Bieber, the teenage pop star, escaped arrest in America despite hitting a police officer with a water balloon
No report was filed on the incident and Beiber was not arrested despite his "inappropriate behaviour"
The 16 year-old, who rose to fame through YouTube, was accused of “inappropriate behaviour” before a Maryland State Fair concert, in Baltimore, last week.
The Canadian heart-throb, who has nurtured a clean-cut image, was said to be “horsing around” with members of his staff when he threw the water-filled projectiles at two state police troopers.
One of the balloons was said to have hit one trooper's gun belt and burst, while the other brushed his colleague on the chest but did not burst.
According to American reports, after fleeing back to his trailer, Bieber was saved by a bodyguard who allegedly convinced police not to arrest the singing sensation.
No report was filed after last Sunday’s incident which occurred just before the sell-out concert. The troopers were at the concert for “crowd control”.
"Still laughing. GREAT DAY," Bieber posted on Twitter, the micro-blogging site, later that night. It remains unclear what he was referring to.
A state police spokesman confirmed Bieber threw water balloons at two troopers while "horsing around with members of his staff".
While describing it as "inappropriate behaviour", he said no further action would be taken by police. No incident report was written either, he added.
A spokesman for the star referred inquiries to the police statement.
Bieber has himself, fallen victim to a water-filled item throwing incident. YouTube footage showed him being hit in the head by a water bottle surfaced last month.
Last month the teenage heartthrob appeared to use his huge influence on Twitter, where he is hugely popular, to punish a young foe.
He is said to have taken revenge on a teenage hacker by tweeting his private phone number, causing the boy to be bombarded with tens of thousands of calls and texts.
Bieber's boy next-door looks and saccharine RnB songs have won him millions of young female fans, but attracted the resentment of many adults confused by his online ubiquity.
Bieber-related messages frequently dominate the scrolling "Top Tweets" displayed on the Twitter home page. He has expanded his web-based army of fans to such levels that he accounts for about three per cent of all activity on site.
Bieber shot to fame two years ago after his mother posted videos of his performances at amateur singing competitions onto YouTube. He earned a cult following and was quickly signed up by major US label Island Records.
His most recent album My World 2.0 went to No 1 in the US charts and No 3 in Britain.
A recent online poll to select an extra stop for Bieber's world tour was hijacked by internet mischief-makers, who voted to send him to North Korea.
