Jury duty summons ******* me off...again

About 2 weeks ago my wife got a jury duty summons in the mail. It was forwarded from our old home address, so my wife wrote "Not at this address" and put it back in the mail. Somehow, they got the correct address and sent another one . Sure enough, 2 days ago, I get one in the mail, with our new address. I just got one of these frickin things a year ago, and I wrote a letter and sure enough I was excused.

My question is this, what the hell is going to happen if I don't respond or show up? I know, I know...$1000 fine, contempt of court, bla bla bla. The letter wasn't sent certified, so how do they know that I ever received it? I'd be willing to bet that nothing happens and they just try to scare everone with the whole "you'll be hauled into court BS".

Don't get me wrong, I know all of the civic duty stuff, and the jury system is important, but I work 6 days a week, usually 10 hours a day, on comission. If I'm not at work, I make ZERO, and my bills don't get paid. What do you all think?
