They probably just wanted to go after one of the big players in the industry to make a statement. But that's the thing. When the laws are such that you're walking the fence between what is legal and illegal... you're pretty much at the mercy of the govt, cause they can go after you any time they want.

Most notable obscenity charges rarely make that much sense. Then again the whole "community standard" way of thinking is also so flawed to be also near nonsensical. I don't think they even try to hide the fact they're basically just tools to force somebody else's morality on other people. Anybody would be hard pressed to come up with a legitimate argument for most of it. It's not like they actually do it to protect anybody from inadvertent obscenity they might accidentally come upon. They might as well come out and say they don't like free speech or expression even when nobody even has to see or hear it that doesn't want to.

Conspiracy...
Evil Angel owner John Stagliano has been charged by a federal grand jury with multiple obscenity violations stemming from the sale and distribution of adult videos through the mail and the Internet.

Wouldn't that effect everyone?

They call them obscene and yet the catholic church gets a slap on the wrist and so do the politicians in their sex scandals.

Also, rape has a statute of limitations, now that's obscene!

And it goes to support a good cause. It's a win-win.

If they wanted alot of people to buy the dvd, they should have produced some original scenes and not produced a compilation dvd. Half of those scenes I already have.

I'm always perplexed about the "support a good cause" title that goes to anything in the porn industry. Contrary to the popular 1st Amendmant speech pornographers give when they get in trouble, the only thing they are fighting for is the right to get more of your money. The 1st Amendment is a good cover for them, but really. Porn producers only care about how much they can get away with in an attempt to get you to reach into your pockets and give them your cash. They shoot themselves in the foot all the time by always trying to push the envelope of what's acceptable. Granted, there is a blurry line when you try and determine what "community standards" are, but with guys like Max hardcore and Rob Black always spearheading their fight against the government, they deserve all the trouble the government can give them. Although John Stagliano doesn't fall into the same category as Max Hardcore, if you want to keep trying to push the government don't ask me to try and help bail you out when the government pushes back. When you can produce almost any kind of porn you like these days, why should we help bail them out when they produce stuff that they know the government is going to come after them for? Especially with this administration.

I dislike writing so, but I agree. I dislike writing so because it's hard for me to contemplate our government becoming truly "big brother".

Absolutely and without conditions agree.

An interesting point to raise: Isn't the government always treading on dangerous grounds when filing obscenity cases? If they do lose and yet another act of porn becomes "nonobscene" through court precedent, then porn wins, in the end. If they win, the fallout inevitably drives porn sales higher.

Besides, almost nothing truly momentous gets decided outside the Supreme Court.
