To change positions on hot issues

Kudos, Mr. Obama . . You have to mean it though . . in 6th grade English !
I have no problem with a politician changing his position on hot issues, so long as the switch was made as a result of further enlightenment . . outside the political realm, that is.
Only a whore of a politician would temporarily switch positions solely to get elected.(AKA "Flip Flop")
Thus far, Mr. Obama has demonstrated some flexibility on this issue for which I have to applaud him.
The part that might bother me is the idea that his stance has never swayed. (voter fear CYA (?))

Obama said Friday that he would be willing to compromise on his position against offshore oil drilling if it were part of a more overarching strategy to lower energy costs.
"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama told The Palm Beach Post early into a two-day swing through Florida.
